Her wife died serving in the Armed Forces. The benefits are hers.

This is where I have a few problems with the expansion of the definition of marriage. There have been paternalistic marriages of convenience in immigration, and for health benefits. The institution of marriage was always a man and a woman. I certainly have no problem with the expansion, except the consequences on our budget. I believe marriages of convenience will expand, and the core central marriage which nurtures and raises children will have the societal benefit which has accrued to the same diminished as to a greater number, there will be marriages of convenience.....mere partnerships in almost the business sense. Vet benefits, social security benefits, retirement benefits will allow certain transfers where otherwise those benefits may have been terminated.

Again, I support her getting the benefits, but I think there are unintended consequences in the long term. I think the abuses are yet to come.

I will admit, times have changed. I have been a little slow adjusting myself, even; but we must evolve with the times. I still would have difficulty watching my squadron commander bring his husband to the annual birthday ball, and then lead him onto the dance floor for a waltz. I guess old habits die hard.
