...and you fools voted for this guy????? Really?

"The costs associated with ACA compliance could ultimately close our doors," the sign reads. "Instead of raising prices on our products to generate the additional revenue needed to cover the costs of ACA compliance, certain Gator's Dockside locations have implemented a 1% surcharge on all food and beverage purchases only."

The owner is a total dick.

He's actually counting on the dysfunctional nature of our nation to make his political statement- he wants people to be pissed off they are paying an extra 15 cents.

Give me a freakin' break.

First I agree with Sal, the person who posted this sign needs psychological help.

I know times are tough but if you can afford to eat in a restaurant are you saying you can't afford 15 cents tacked on to a $15 bill, REALLY?

I hope the restaurants that post disgruntled notices like this one did will be flooded with customers who tip generously and mock the notice. I hope they tell the manager what a jerk he is for posting it and tell him to get a flying grip. Get over it. People need health insurance. Healthy employees show up for work. They don't come to work sick and sneeze on your food. Seems like a small price to pay.

Not all taxes are bad PD. If you want to have decent infrastructure and health insurance for most people then there is a cost. I think this is a small price to pay.

As to service sector jobs...maybe the portability of health insurance will free up people who want to change jobs or start their own business?

They probably serve shitty food, so who would want to patronize them, anyway....?

We already have a COST to this for those of us who have health insurance.....we are paying MORE to subsidize those who don't have insurance. Why tax everything? Is that due to the fact that NOT enough people are signing up for this catastrophe?

Change from one minimum wage job to another? Free health insurance isn't going to stop an strong willed entrepreneur from starting their own business. Quit trying to spin it. I'm sure that was Bill Gates' idea when he started Microsoft. LOL

Let us never lose touch with two facts: first, before the ACA we were ALL paying for the care of others. It was just cleverly folded in to all the charges billed to our insurance companies in a hidden way.

Second, the idea of requiring everyone to have health insurance was put forward by the conservative Heritage Foundation. They presented it as a means of making sure there were no free loaders using the system without paying for it. They said it would require individual RESPONSIBILITY.

Now, since it is a democratic plan it is suddenly the worst idea ever envisioned by mankind. The right wing is a piece of work. They don't have the courage to support an idea even when it was originally their own! Do they know what they stand for? It doesn't look like it when they change position 180 degrees just for the sake of stirring up the base and opposing the democrats.

1- While we were all paying for everyone who showed up at an emergency room, we were not being raped to pay for those who are choosing not to work or work less and take subsidies. People were not having their insurance cancelled prior to the ACA either on some arbitrary plan that forces men and nuns to have things that they aren't going to use like maternity care. That list of unnecessary items added to a person's policy under ACA is long and extensive.

2- This ACA is WHOLLY the Democrats. You forced it through Congress using legalistic means to do so even if it had not been read through thoroughly (2000+ pages). You guys held secret meetings that Republicans were not invited to for your dirty deals. Remember Pelosi's words: "We have to pass it to see what's in it." Well, you passed it, so we are learning every day more of how it sucks, and you guys own it- lock, stock and barrel. Enjoy November.

The mandate, requiring every American to purchase health insurance, appeared in a 1989 published proposal by Stuart M. Butler of the conservative Heritage Foundation called "Assuring Affordable Health Care for All Americans," which included a provision to "mandate all households to obtain adequate insurance."

The Heritage Foundation "substantially revised" its proposal four years later, according to a 1994 analysis by the Congressional Budget Office. But the idea of an individual health insurance mandate later appeared in two bills introduced by Republican lawmakers in 1993, according to the non-partisan research group ProCon.org. Among the supporters of the bills were senators Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, who today oppose the mandate under current law.

Both of you are right here.  The mandate was first proposed by conservatives.  Orin Hatch introduced it as legislation in the 90s as an alternative to the system that Clinton was pushing.  The presidential candidate that PACEDOG voted for implemented it in his state as governor.

That said, this current bill is definitely owned by democrats, which I am completely fine with.

What is odd is that - relative to where the battle lines were drawn on healthcare in the 90s - we have moved politically on this issue to the right; however, today's GOP supporters are so completely ignorant that they call this socialism.  They know nothing about the history of the healthcare debate, nor do they know what the term 'socialism' even means...and they vote.

Actually, I am looking forward to November. It should be a very interesting and entertaining time.

It is really going to be fun over the next few months as we watch certain posters on this forum go all hysterical making predictions that will likely never come true...

Well thank goodness we have the Democratic party. These amazingly smart voters research and study all issues prior to voting.  Some would say the majority vote according to where the D is located but we know that would never ever happen to this super intelligent group....and they would never vote based soley on racial make-up. Election percentages for the last 2 presidential elections proved that fallacy.   Rolling Eyes
