Yep, it's over.  Close, but looks like Mcauliffe will have a 10,000+ point lead.

Does anyone know what triggers a recount in VA? It's going to be very close.

Each state's statute sets the parameters for a recount. I lead a group which challenged a school referendum which lost by three votes. We were restricted in the samples we could take for recount by statute, and ended up taking five ballots to the judge, as the hanging chad was critical to this election where the five ballots would have reversed the election and the referendum would have passed. The judge wisely said the he did not see the hanging chads or the intent as shown by punched chads and our group who wanted the referendum were devastated, but the Judge was wise, and we caught on when talking to the press. We said the judge made a good decision, and really the voters will have to make sure it passes in the next referendum in six months. It won by a 1000 votes in the next election, and the next two elections the voters supported school referendums.....if we had won in court, we would have angered voters who thought the courts were deciding an election, and it would have been next to impossible to get future referendums passed for the kids. The sample recounts as defined by statute usually will show that no error was made, but sometimes you just need to stand down, and think of it as a flipped coin........

I don't think it's close enough for a recount.

CNN projects McCauliffe as the winner:

Too close to the first of the month and the liberal voting base is too busy spending their welfare checks to find time to vote..

Pretty amazing that it was so close.  McAuliffe not only had the Democratic machine on his side, he outspent Cuccinelli by 15 million dollars.

Since 1970 when the Dixiecrats migrated to the Republican Party, the governor has half the time been a republican, and half the time been a democrat, where prior to 1970 the state of Virginia had 100 plus years of only Democratic governors. The state is firmly in the swing state category, and our national elections are basically decided by about 12 states. In order for a Republican to become President, a candidate is needed who can turn about 18 states into swing states. This may not be mathematically possible with the changing demographics and the Reagan democrats simply dying off.

Actually, Cuccinelli was the favorite because he was AG, had four years to prepare, and because McAuliffe was beaten badly the last time he ran for office.

But, I'm glad it was close.

It keeps energy in the teabags who are ripping the Republican party apart.

I'm so disappointed in the people from my home state.

Why do the citizens of VA disappoint you?
Because they are not an ultra-conservative, racist bigot, like yourself?
So sad when logic and reason are swept aside by intolerance and ignorance.
Keep up the good work, pee-dog/KarlRove, whomever you are, today.
The citizen of VA made the correct choice, not the right one.
Thanks.

The white people are.

There's just not enough of them anymore.
