Representative Tammy Duckworth (D) Illinois was severely wounded in Iraq in 2004 when her UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was shot down with an RPG rocket that exploded on her side of the cockpit, severing both of her legs below the knee. She first ran for Congress in 2006, but lost. Afterward she headed the Illinois state veterans department before being appointed to a position in the VA after President Obama assumed office. In 2012, she won election to Congress, representing the Illinois 8th District.  

The guy she goes after has a VA disability rating for playing football at a service academy prep school, and never served any active service in the military. Not only does he get a check from the VA every month, but he owns a business that gets favorability for government contracts, allowing him to milk the system that way, too.

Tammy is going very far in our government. She is a true hero. She is a role model for so many. Party labels mean little when a person of this fortitude gets in congress and starts doing things right. Good people make good government, and we need to stop fighting which has allowed folks to game this system, and start working for a fair and just administration of benefits.

If I could reach her right now.....I would hug her....I tear up thinking about the pain she has endured, yet she fights for justice for others.....a true American hero.

Good for her, let her go after some of these guys faking to receive VA disability. Heard of a guy over in Ft Walton a few years back, age 22, was general discharged and studied on the internet how to fake PTSD, last I heard he received VA disability, plus when he was faking it he had been awarded disability by social security.

Had a guy in my office in the past two months that got out in February, he was 35 years old. I said what did you do and he said medic. I said are you enrolled VA? He said no but applied and expected a 50% rating. I asked what his disability was? He said sleep apnea. I said what? He said he developed in the service so it was their fault, while he was already overweight. I had the pleasure to tell him he could not get health insurance because of sleep apnea, and he asked if he could get Obamacare and I said if you receive your disability and are enrolled in VA healthcare which is considered minimum essential health coverage NOPE you cannot get it. He left pissed.

What's more, the editors at redstate.com are likely just conservative chickenhawks who never spent a day in uniform. Representative Duckworth left both of her legs in Iraq, for that matter. It's the (D) following her official title they don't like.
