Most posters here are either in the "free market is always right" crowd or the "government is always right" crowd.

But the truth is that both the free market AND government are nothing more than necessary evils and no one should turn his back on either one. To make a religion out of either one is not a very wise perspective.

The free market isn't perfect. Look at the telegraph... western union wound up taking over. My point has always been common sense regulation... that should protect competition... oddly enough canada does that in some ways.

Once private power can access govt to give them competitive (or lack of) advantages there is no longer a free market.

The "free market" is operated by human beings,  no different than what the government is operated by.  And there are human beings in this world and in this country,  regardless if they are in the "free market" or in the government,  who when they obtain positions of power will try to fuck over and cheat other human beings.  That is a fact of human nature and no amount of worship of free market or worship of government either one is ever going to change that. And it's still a fact even when the Sean Hannitys or Keith Overmans or Karl Marxes or Ayn Rands try to  tell us differently.
