Here's an excellent rebuttal for the above extremely misleading ad:

(Peacekitten)

his ad, like everything else the koch brothers put out, is extremely misleading.
there are two fundamentally different forms of "capitalism," one angled towards social justice, and the other type, adopted by the united states and beloved of the koch brothers and their ilk, namely "laissez-faire."
"laissez-faire" is, at its heart, WHOLLY UNJUST, unfair, and in no way "free." because of its lack of a mechanism to ensure social justice, it guarantees a system to promote debt-laden labor and economic practices, rather than one that promotes EQUITY-building labor and practices. under "laissez-faire," the value of labor is excessively appropriated, i.e. STOLEN, from the person doing the labor.
this is why wages have stagnated in the u.s. for the past 35 years, and why so much labor has been sent to exploitative markets where, despite working 18 hours a day, laborers still live in abject poverty. the fruits of their labor is stolen, just as it was and is, from american workers.
it's also how the creation of a wealthy class unlike any the world has ever known, came about.
the INJUSTICE of this type of system cannot be overstated. it results in the massive, unchecked upward migration of wealth into the hands of a very few, while those doing the actual labor are trapped in a world of debt and the inability to build any kind of personal equity for themselves as a result of their work. it promotes poverty.
this type of capitalism is WHOLLY incompatible with democratic government. it's this type of capitalism the kochs are obsessed with preserving.
this type of system inevitably becomes a fascist one, wherein corporations control the workings of the state. this is currently happening, and how the koch brothers energy companies, among others, obtained specific exemptions from things like the clean water act, allowing them to pollute with impunity in pursuit of profit.
for a capitalist market to be truly free, it must above all, be FAIR. this requires a referee, traditionally the government, thus allowing accountability to society.
in a FAIR, socially just capitalist system, those who put in the labor to perform work receive the lion's share of capital for their efforts, guaranteed by the rules by which everyone who wants to participate in that market must play. workers build personal equity, and achieve *secure* property ownership of such things as their home, the foundation of anyone's personal wealth. it's the ONLY long-term, sustainable form of capitalism.
under this type of capitalism, it's still possible for individuals to become very wealthy, but far less likely that they will accumulate the kind of wealth that threatens the security of nations, such as the kochs now possess. this kind of wealth is not compatible with the representative democracy, otherwise known as the republic, which we have in america.
it's the enemy of a people who assert the right of self-determination.

Regardless of any comparison between those that make $34000 a year or more and those that don't, it's difficult to get along in the US on a $34,000 a year income. It's hard to own your own home and make that little, it's hard to make a car payment on that income, and nearly impossible to send kids to college on that $34000 a year. Not being able to send your kids to college guarantees that they will be low income earners too, so generational poverty is what results.
That ad is insulting to millions of Americans that have to live that way. It basically says be happy you're at least alive. Screw the Koch brothers. Let them have a couple of years of living on that income and see how appreciative they are.
