Oh well, they'll always have Benghazi.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Internal Revenue Service’s screening of groups seeking tax-exempt status was broader and lasted longer than has been previously disclosed, the new head of the agency said Monday.

An internal IRS document obtained by The Associated Press said that besides ‘‘tea party,’’ lists used by screeners to pick groups for close examination also included the terms ‘‘Israel,’’ ‘'Progressive’’ and ‘‘Occupy.’’ The document said an investigation into why specific terms were included was still underway.

Strange that after all this time the 'progressive' and 'occupy' angle comes to light...Some on the left were supportive of the occupy group and as Nancy Pelosi commented..."God lovem"...Never heard that terminology applied to conservative and/or Tea Party groups...This IRS scandal was an abuse of power and certainly much larger than two agents in Cincinnati....further compounded by new agents to be hired to enforce the [name] cowh healthcare requirements...Instead of expanding their roles the IRS should be shut down with a simplified tax code and flat tax being put in place...

So everything is cool now since it has been found out that inappropriate screening methods were being used on a broader scale than everyone was led to believe? Too bad for the yahoos in the administration who get to explain their logic (or lack thereof) and their lies. Poor Sally - trapped in a hyper-partisan cocoon.

I find this interesting:

"Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan, top Democrat on the Ways and Means panel, said he was writing a letter to J. Russell George, the Treasury Department inspector general whose audit in May detailed IRS targeting of conservatives, asking why his report did not mention other groups that were targeted."

This "transparent" administration is a farce.

This "scandal" is just a cover for the real scandal...that ANY of these groups qualified for a "public service" classification that allowed them to avoid taxes and donor disclosures.

I'm with nochain. It sure does seem odd that it has taken so much time to discover this revelation.

You have to wonder if public knowledge of "liberal" groups being improperly screened too would have cost BHO votes? Has the IRS become a political tool (weapon)?

So by the new director coming forward with this 'new' information...is that going to make anyone happy?...Don't care liberal...conservative...republican..democrat...independent etc., NO ONE should be targeted by the governemnt based on disagreement with party affiliation and/or political beliefs...The cowh and his administration is a disgrace....

The disgrace is that these entities will not be audited. The IRS has now "refined" the rule to allow 40% of activity by these organizations to be directly political. It's utterly ridiculous and only reinforces the underlying reason for this fake scandal...hiding the donors and retaining the tax-exempt status of blatantly partisan groups.

Looks like the GOP "trifecta" is coming apart at the seams...that was predictable.

About as predictable as BHO being unable to control the IRS in the first place, or maybe he was.......

I'm sure no influence was used here:

"Lois Lerner, the senior IRS official at the center of the decision to target tea party groups for burdensome tax scrutiny, signed paperwork granting tax-exempt status to the Barack H. Obama Foundation, a shady charity headed by the president’s half-brother that operated illegally for years.

According to the organization’s filings, Lerner approved the foundation’s tax status within a month of filing, an unprecedented timeline that stands in stark contrast to conservative organizations that have been waiting for more than three years, in some cases, for approval.

Lerner also appears to have broken with the norms of tax-exemption approval by granting retroactive tax-exempt status to Malik Obama’s organization."

No wonder you refer to him as 'flawedtexan'....to still be defending the actions of the IRS and saying it's a republican 'trifecta' coming apart at the seams explains just what is meant by 'loony on the left'....

The IRS‘ auditor told Congress this week that it stands by its determination that conservative groups were uniquely singled out for special scrutiny by the tax agency, rebutting Democrats’ contention that liberal groups also were targeted.

The Treasury Department’s inspector general for tax administration (TIGTA) sent a letter Wednesday to congressional Democrats telling them that while several liberal groups may have gotten extra scrutiny, the IRS didn’t necessarily target those — but it did do so for conservative groups.

“TIGTA concluded that inappropriate criteria were used to identify potential political cases for extra scrutiny — specifically, the criteria listed in our audit report. From our audit work, we did not find evidence that the criteria you identified, labeled “Progressives,” were used by the IRS to select potential political cases during the 2010 to 2012 timeframe we audited,” Inspector General J. Russell George said.

He said that while 30 percent of groups that had the word “progressive” in their name were given extra scrutiny, 100 percent of groups with “tea party,” “patriot” or “9/12” in their names were pulled out for strict scrutiny, which involved what the IRS since has said were invasive and inappropriate questions.
