Did anyone get to see the CNN report last night about the healthcare system in this country? If anyone can find a link to the whole program please share it with us.

Of course it presented many things we already know such as how we spend about twice as much for health care per person in this country with poorer results than many.

There was one segment that dealt with the military. They are now using acupuncture and other Eastern techniques to successfully treat PTSD and physical pain. This reduces dependency on pain meds, has no bad side effects and is cheaper so naturally it will be fought tooth and nail by the pharmaceutical companies.

The whole system is upside down but on the bright side it did have many good useable and proven ways of improving our healthcare outcomes and reducing costs. The obesity epidemic alone is going to sink the system unless we can turn it around. Here's a link to a trailer:

LOL, for once, a list we are not #1 on (in a good way!)

The part of the program about Safeway was very encouraging. The management of Safeway has promoted employee health.

They've installed gyms for them and health/food counseling, great food in the cafeteria etc. The part that should appeal to the most Scrooge-like among us is that the company saved tons of money on health/medical bills for employees. Another bonus, the employees of course felt better.

The U.S. military lost more service members to suicide than combat last year as the number of troops who took their lives rose to a record high.
....
In an effort to curb the trend, the military has hired more behavioral health-care providers, embarked on a long-term study of mental health for uniformed personnel and expanded the reach of a crisis line.
....
Corps officials say they are partnering with research organizations to understand the root causes behind the trend.

So called non-traditional treatments such as acupuncture are proving to be ver successful in the treatment of pain and mental disorders.

This is a great improvement over excess dependence on prescription drugs.
