“Good Lord,” marine scientist Dr. Bob Shipp said, when Local 15 showed him the video. “As a scientist, I think it’s abominable.”

Shipp said the demolitions are frequent, sometimes three a week in the Gulf, but are seldom video-taped. Shipp also sits on the Gulf Fisheries Management Council, and has been a strong opponent of the demolitions.

“It’s a double whammy,” Shipp said, “Not only are we killing a lot of snapper, but we’re also destroying their habitat.”

I'm afraid not. Ya see, our federal government is a "knee Jerk" organization that seldom unzips their pants before taking a piss. And then they take a quote from the Laural & Hardy skits in which the over fed Oliver Hardy says, "Now look at what you've gone and made me do!"

Teo, you hijacked your own thread. I found this discussion at the NYT...some informed comments. It has certainly been my experience that abandoned oil rigs attract masses of fish, but you have to be careful when fishing around them, for obvious reasons. This blowing up of rigs is...counterproductive to say the least. Really stupid; needs to be stopped. I hope this report "blows the lid off" these actions. I'd like to know who's responsible for doing this...can't really tell for sure.

Sorry, forgot to post the link... Embarassed

That was fascinating. But you'd think there would be a way to either scare the fish away or lure them away from a rig that's planned for demolition.
