Using profanity in public is just an instant class changer. I cuss in traffic to myself and my son does sometimes in front of me. I have gotten on to him about how small it makes the person look although it's widely accepted in his generation. If he wants to use it w/ his friends-fine-but you have to know when not to use the "F' word and that's where people fall short. No one wants to look like a low class individual but you do when you use it in front of people you don't know or work situations.

None of my kids cuss in front of me.

Im amused that you think its ok for your son to cuss away from you when you say that cussing is a sign of low class. So what your saying is that its ok that your son is low class as long as he is low class out of your sight. lol

^^^ that above is your thoughts on class. something you think you have all figured out, along with so many other snooty assholes here.

cussing has NOTHING to do with class. People will cuss at certain times. its just a fact of life. Ive dined with some of the finest smartest classiest people ever, and trust me, the F word will come out. I have worked with some of the smartest classiest people ever, and get them mad and watch the cuss words come out.

To me theres really nothing worse than a fake. and a couple of people on here really take the cake of fakes.

Youre understanding and slices undersatnding of human nature is a failure. Sorry. it is what it is. lacking on all fronts. Keep your snooty noses up your asses because you'll never understand real people. Only fables from a book could possibly meet your criteria.

dreams, it could be a habit we get into. I use curse words sometimes just kidding around. Laughingly. But sometimes, like if I drop something made of glass of ceramics and it breaks I find myself spouting a word that wasn't planed, an involuntary word or phrase. I expect most people do it. It's not cool and perhaps children should be chastised for it when it is first heard by a parent.

You have twisted human nature and learned behavior. Cussing is not human nature. You were taught to cuss or hung around people who use those words. You have a very warped sense of human nature. I doubt you have ever been around classy people and it shows. I'm surprised your kids don't cuss in front of you but sometimes kids don't want to be like their parents. I can understand that in your case.

I think at times, both sides or "classes" miss the point. A doctor having a top of the line dinner at Jacksons has no conception that the construction worker eating a can of Viennas on the back of pick up truck could be happy.

Like wise the construction worker may show disdain for the style of dinning the doctor prefers.

The construction workers point of view is invalid to some because the worker is "Poor".

Many people really enjoy life whether they are rich or not.

Well said, HMG. I don't buy in to the whole "class" thing anyhow. My Dad would haunt me if I started believing that. My Dad had his faults, as all fathers do, but he raised me to view people as individuals rather than members of some nebulous class.

It could be because my Dad was a poor, literally cotton-picking Mississippi boy who joined the Army as a medic then used the benefits to go to med school. Dad never forgot his roots, and he never let me forget them, either.

Carlin on profanity

When I brought up Carlin in this thread it was in no way trying to compare what we do here or what I write in this forum to George Carlin.
It was simply a response to slice's comment that "uneducated people use profanity and educated people do not".

But after reading Carlin on this, what I did with this thread title is applying profanity exactly as he does. I don't cuss in every post I write. I don't cuss in most posts I write. And I've probably cussed in thread titles about twice in total.
I used profanity in this thread title and this post for verbal puncuation. It was used as a tool to convey the level of disgust I have for the subject of the thread.
It has nothing to do with education, lack of education, "class" or any of that. It's just a way of providing a very high degree of emphasis to what I wrote about.

I have a friend who is very wealthy. A multi millionaire. One day I was doing some work on his new 32 foot Excalibur cigarette boat. We were going out into the bay to test some new gear and do some tuning on it. As we were passing his house I said "Damn Boss, you have go it made!!! Big house, kockout lady friend, Boats, a new Viper." I will never forget what he said " I dont own this stuff, the stuff owns me!!! I have to worry about keeping it up, seeing that people like you have work to do, and catch hell from every nickel and dime government official."
I offered to help him out by letting him give me the boat, but he just laughed....... true story

OK, all you military guys....what was a "TEC 3" in World War II? I just read that on my Dad's tombstone at Barrancas. Did that mean medic, or what?

Now I shall go ask hubby, but he may not know about WWII designations.

EDIT: I found the answer online. TEC means technical, of course, which includes medics. I don't know what the "3" means, though. It has some correlation to the current enlisted designations.

Youre calling me a bigot LOL LOL.... I'd say the people who call other people LOW CLASS for cussing are the bigots. Maybe you need a refresher on what BIGOT means:

BIGOT:
: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially: one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

The 'Low Class" group filling in for the ethnic group in this case.

I was little wrong, I shouldnt have used the word "snooty" for you two. It should have been POMPUS ASSES. However bigot would fit by definition of how you two take it upon yourselves to place people in a "Low Class status" due to YOUR own predjudices of what words people should use or not.

And yes, Ive been around some pretty classy people and at times ive heard them let it fly. I didnt think any less of them because I was aware at the time what they were bitching about and why they said what they said. << and this was face to face. So seeing it online really doesnt phase me at all. I dont see it as my job to go around and decide who has class or not or who has a mental disease. Two things both you and dreams do.

E-3 They did the same thing in my day just a tad different. They introduced the "specialist" rank in place of the "Tec" rank. Same pay grade. Some jobs called for a specialist rating while others were "hard stripes. The hard stipe guys were supposed to have a little more pull.
One way to check the age of the photo you see of Vietnam is to look at the name tags. They used to be white but in the mid 60s they changed to Olive Drab. Same with rank insignias.

In 1955, four grades of Specialist were established: Specialist Third Class (E-4), Specialist Second Class (E-5), Specialist First Class (E-6), and Master Specialist (E-7) similar to the Petty Officer grades of the Navy and Coast Guard. When the (so-called) Super Grades (E-8 and E-9) were introduced in 1958, the Specialist grade titles were changed to Specialist Four through Specialist Seven; Specialist Eight and Specialist Nine were added on top; each such grade paralleled the corresponding grade of non-commissioned officer (E-4 through E-9) in terms of pay, but without the NCO authority conferred on the latter.

Only the lowest Specialist grade survives today, as the higher grades were phased out, beginning with Specialist 8 and 9 in 1965. Specialist 8 and 9 had existed on paper only; there were never any actual promotions to these ranks. Specialist 7 was abolished in 1978 and Specialist 5 and 6 in 1985. At that time, the rank of Specialist 4 simply became known as "Specialist", which is how it is referred to today.

In order to know if we go around deciding who has a metal disease, you would need to be able to read minds.

The American Psychiatric Association reported in The American Journal of Psychiatry that the expectation of the ability to read the minds of others is an irrational expectation. Your attempting to read and know my mind is by definition “irrational behavior.”

Every one of the posters who flood the forum with crap that receives zero feedback made sure they expressed their outrage for me doing what they do every freaking day.

People associate having class w/ money. There really is no correlation these days w/ all the rap and Hip Hop people making millions. Class is how you conduct yourself and react to the world. You don't have to have money to have class. There are plenty of low class rich people. I don't make it a job to go around deciding who has class or is a mental case. I just call it when I see it. It's your choice to act in any fashion you want but don't expect people to accept it and say nothing. You choose how people view you.

cussing has NOTHING to do with class.

"Youre understanding and slices undersatnding of human nature is a failure. Sorry. it is what it is. lacking on all fronts."

I'm afraid your ignorance and bigotry are showing. It would appear your understanding of human nature is limited to your own life experiences and circle of associations. Trust me, the world is much broader than those views you project. Your regarding others holding views differing from yours as "SNOOTY" speaks volumes about your lack of experience in the field of human behavior. Your statement, " is. lacking on all fronts. is a perplexing comment. Please share with us exactly what constitutes "All Fronts" in your world.

No reading minds. It was said many times. As for you, I'll just keep my mouth shut about our past conversations. Wink

We may want to leave this conversation alone. Razz

Sounds like you're using some past conversations w/ Slice as leverage? How classy of you and typical? He'll learn.

I have to take back what's in this post. If I was educated I woulda put another "t" in the word "puncuation". So slice may have a point.
But in my defense, when I was spelling the word I didn't think it looked right so I should get some credit for that. lol
