The oddity of the Republican response to what happened in Benghazi is partly this focus on half-baked conspiracy theories rather than on the real evidence of failures by the State Department, Pentagon and CIA in protecting the Benghazi mission. What’s even stranger is the singling out of Ms. Rice, a Rhodes scholar and seasoned policymaker who, whatever her failings, is no one’s fool.

Could it be, as members of the Congressional Black Caucus are charging, that the signatories of the letter are targeting Ms. Rice because she is an African American woman? The signatories deny that, and we can’t know their hearts. What we do know is that more than 80 of the signatories are white males, and nearly half are from states of the former Confederacy. You’d think that before launching their broadside, members of Congress would have taken care not to propagate any falsehoods of their own.

As I posted before, I saw her live on these infamous Sunday talk shows and with out a doubt what she was saying was not accurate. I felt uncomfortable because the President had already said it was terrorists, yet she was tying the Egyptian protests and this attack together like it was common tapestry.

However, I also watched live Colin Powell going to the United Nations convincing the United Nations that Iraq had weapons of Mass destruction. Where were the personal attacks against Powell when he was handed bad information from the intelligence community? 4k dead and 2 trillion gone, and not one house member sending a memo to President Bush that the black general put his foot in it.........so is this a racial thing?

I think it clearly is a racial thing. The University of Ms election night was the most honest response to the election results, and this attack the black lady who made a mistake by reading the intelligence she was given....well that simply is a bunch of people who got buried by the president, now trying to get any official of color......AG, UN ambassador, or president and make them seem incompetent......the truth is these folks are quite successful and the world of white hoods and small men is becoming increasingly less significant in any regard......so let them bellow about nothing......I just watched a bunch of black QBs play for SEC teams when a few years ago it was deemed that the QB position was unsuited for them....yet when it comes to winning....well damn.....We need to get us one of those QBs.....nope the times they are a changing, and 2014 is going to be a bloodbath as America will have had their fill of racism and obstruction.

She was either incompetent or complicit of disinformation. Obama's excuse that she knew nothing directly as UN ambassador should have been the reason not to send her on the fool's errand (it was probably why she was chosen). It's fairly obvious that the real issue is the cia op that armed resistance including terrorist elements... I thght we were supposed to be against tinkering in foreign countries as part of "bridging the gap" and gaining our trust and integrity back?

The youtube video and excuse that it was the best intelligence/information at the time sounds eerily similar to the wmd/iraq info... it sounds like we're arming a bunch of people we probably shouldn't like the muslim brotherhood and al qaida... etc.

Susan Rice reported the facts she was given BY THE INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY. That ultimately means by David Patraeus. I wonder as well exactly what kind of operation the CIA was conducting in Benghazi, but it leads me to suspect the neocons, not Ms. Rice, nor the President.

Lol... You would... it's called a dissociative disorder.

You're able to assign literally anything to one side... and excuse anything for the other... classic.

This article says the whole Benghazi thing was a CIA gun-running operation to send captured Libyan weapons to Syrian rebels. The ambassador was also a CIA operative, supposedly.

I do not understand the central premise of the attack on Rice. Nothing she said mattered that much because the President clearly stated in the Rose Garden that we had been attacked by terrorists and we would get them. I think Rice sincerely believed that the events in the middle east were connected......so what.......a person who was challenged would not understand that this was a terrorist attack......exactly as the president said.....so what exactly is the premise of the attack on Rice.

That she was part of some political conspiracy which believed that four Americans dying in Libya would show weakness in the President......quite the contrary.....for those who are not challenged, it was obvious that the overthrow of Khadafi was a spectacular success and although far from being perfect that in the larger sense, it is a miracle so few did die, and so little American capital was expended accomplishing a goal which had been high on our priorities for thirty years. I simply do not understand the premise which you now argue makes FT in some kind of dream.....I do not think she is the one in the dream, nor do I think she is only seeing things from one side......in Libya......anybody who does not recognize a huge foreign policy success is simply not able to grasp the obvious, and now wants us to believe some fairy tale which makes up their pretend world.......Susan Rice believed the intelligence she was given.....she was wrong. I do not know if Colin Powell believed the intelligence he was given......who of the two did something wrong......?

Inherent in the bizarre logic that some conspiracy existed is the belief that if only Susan Rice had used the word terrorists, the American Public would have a change in their heart about the President. That four Americans dying could be blamed directly on the President, and the hundreds who died in Afghanastan who actually could be alive today had the President taken our troops out at the same time as Iraq......no......it would be four cia operatives fighting in Libya which would show the President as incompetent and weak.

When I think about this logic....I have a vision of Karl Rove on Fox News on Election night trying to tell everybody that it was too early to call Ohio, that he still believed Romney would win Ohio......complete and utter disassociation with reality.......yet, he is one of the chief architects of this proof of presidential weakness in Libya......when the reality is that the Libyan model of CIA intervention will be the strength of success in Syria and Iran....a model which does not have all those Military Industrial complex contributors to Karl's booty fund very happy.....you know America winning with few deaths and not emptying the American treasury on military equipment........nope you really have to have a few screws loose to buy into the logic which even makes Susan Rice relevant.

Intelligence knew it was terrorists within 24hrs... Two weeks later Obama blamed the "crude and disgusting" youtube video in front of the entire United Nations... this ain't rocket surgery poindexter. I wonder who watched the live feed?

Excellent posts, Mr. Oats.

The disassociation from reality of the modern day conservative movement in the United States is complete.

Boy did you miss the boat on the UN speech. Yes, I saw that live also. He had a different audience and he certainly was addressing the protests over the video.....and he never....and I repeat never attempted to convey that what happened in Libya was anything but a terrorist attack. Yes, he addressed the issue of disrespect of religious tenets never being an excuse for violence in the streets, but his comments were entirely timely and correct. Again, what simpleton did not understand that a coordinated terrorist attack had happened......please tell me you understood it was a terrorist attack......then please explain to me how if you understood the same, how in the world could anything the President said in the UN change your mind, or anybody's mind that this now was about demonstrations.....are you kidding me.....do you not see the absurdity of this logic?

It's amazing that obama can allude to generalizations like "acts of terror" referring to something else... and a political lackey such as you can fill in the gaps for him to fit any myriad of outcomes. It must be nice to have such willing followers... obama 2016?

This is mushrooming into a huge scandal and the race of Susan Rice is simply another effort by the Progressives to divert attention from the real issues.

The Administration was able to keep the lid on until after the election and might have kept it quiet had it not been for the huge sex scandal involving General Petraeus, his biographer and now another general and a broke socialite. This could be the plot for the next James Bond or other movie. What else do they need? There is violence, innocent deaths, espionage, a sex scandal, what else do they need?

President Barack Hussein Obama caused this attack with his rants on having al Qaeda being on the run and having killed Osama bin Laden. He changed his foreign policy to follow that of President George Bush but President Obama just couldn't keep quiet.

The wingnuts will be ranting about this incident until 2016; but will it derail the President's second term? Doubtful.

It's amazing you heard a different thing when it was never the reference. I wonder if they've ever done a study of what people actually said and what people want to believe what was said.

A fatal, Islamic terrorist attack, by al Qaeda, on the anniversary of 9/11/2001, on one of our Embassies, killing four Americans for the first time in over 30 years is an INCIDENT to a Progressive.

There were no fatalities in Watergate or Monicagate.

Sorry you can not blame anyone else but Obama and his administration for this one. This falls squarely in Obama's lap and no one else.

Now if your child was on that Pan Am Flight which Libyan terrorist exploded a bomb killing close to 300 people in the air and ground......do you think after almost 30 years of failed attempts to topple the Libyan regime you would celebrate.......exactly what terrorist activities happened in Iraq which required 4k dead American kids and trillions of dollars down the rabbit hole of misguided policy and bad intelligence. So now four people die in a regime change, and that is deemed a failure.......are you on drugs......move to Colorado so when you smoke that stuff you are legal.......oh, and those folks that died were all soldiers......CIA as certain as the sun will rise....and when your grand investigation about nothing is done.....like senator Church and his noble agenda to find fault with the American intelligence community, the numbskulls will set this country back five years......you cannot handicap stupidity....if it was only as easy as golf where we could give some folks a few extra strokes.....we can't.....so we have to endure the idiocy of scapegoating the UN ambassador.....brilliant.....and yes.....it is consistent with the same folks at the University of Mississippi....and the folks in the house who signed the resolution....golly gee Mr. Kotter.......where were they from.........

It's no different than wasting 52 million to get a president for a blow job when they were doing the same thing.

Its worse.....the damage which can be done to the intelligence community by numbskulls could set back the advancements in covert activities years....not to mention putting our covert folks at immediate risk......but in numbskull land they think the commander in chief is running cia covert activities, and the White House is responsible for line responses.....the ignorance is so great....it really is hard to even imagine who came up with this tactic to discredit......perhaps Monica's drycleaner.........

Link? No paraphrases allowed loser. He either said it or he did not. We do know that KKKlinton said, "I did not have sex with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky."

We know that Obama said the attacks on our embassy were due to a movie.

We've also have the Iran contra affair. We had Admiral Poindexter who was the deniable link so that it didn't get to Reagan. There is an Admiral Poindexter in here. Two or three of them, perhaps. This is something that many, many times more serious than Watergate ever thought of being. House Republicans have an obligation to drill in this thing with all the authority we have.

Plausible deniability is a lot of fun. It's like porn....I can't define it, but I know when I see it.
