Most Chinese don't have a car, anyway. You have to be relatively wealthy in China to own a car.
I always love the pretty pictures the Chinese make to illustrate a proposed project. If it was in Singapore, I could almost believe those pictures.

People are going to need consumables. Without cars and trucks, what are they going to use to transport food, waste, and durable goods? Pedicabs?

I agree that they will have a better environmental footprint, but there will need to be employment, a way to get to that employment and utility support that will generate pollution and waste... just away from that microcosm.

It's a good step, but not a panacea.
