Don't you live in New York? You know, the state that effective today has had 120 Covid deaths per 100K population vs Florida with 6 per 100K.

Looks like New York is the REAL shithole state with incompetent government.

Covid Cases Spike In Florida As Bars And Restaurants Reopen At Full Capacity

Florida reported its biggest jump in coronavirus cases in over a week on Tuesday and testing positivity rates are now on the rise statewide, signaling a possible ramping up of coronavirus spread as health experts are concerned that the reopening of bars and restaurants at 100% capacity could fuel a new outbreak.

Florida Republicans cut Democrats’ registration edge to historic low

TALLAHASSEE — Republicans in Florida, a must-win state for President Donald Trump, have narrowed the voter registration gap with Democrats to the lowest level in at least three decades, giving the GOP a shot of momentum as they continue to trail in early turnout.

Republicans now lag Democrats by just 134,242 registered voters, down from 327,483 when Trump won Florida by fewer than 113,000 votes in 2016. The gain is a byproduct of the Trump campaign’s extensive face-to-face ground game and voter registration operation, which continued as Joe Biden and Florida Democrats pulled back from those traditional activities after the coronavirus pandemic erupted in March.

The shift means the two parties, statistically speaking, are almost evenly matched when it comes to raw numbers, with Democrats holding a narrow 1 percent lead. Final voter registration data released Thursday by Florida election officials show 5.3 million Democrats, 5.1 million Republicans and 3.7 million people with no major party affiliation.

Florida Democrats turned much of their focus to boosting vote-by-mail turnout, which has helped them bank 430,000 more votes than Republicans three weeks ahead of Election Day.

Democrats can’t compete with the Trump campaign’s “superior ground game and infrastructure,” Trump Victory spokesperson Emma Vaughn said in an email. “The Sunshine State is ready to deliver.”

The Biden campaign has no regrets about pulling back traditional get-out-the-vote activities amid a global pandemic, even as Democrats’ once-dominant advantage has been whittled down.

“Democrats have amassed an overwhelming vote by mail advantage and turned out in historic numbers for the primary election in August,” Biden Florida communications director Carlie Waibel said in an email. “Democrats are leading in the metrics that will determine this election and returning their ballots at a higher rate than Republicans — and we aren't letting up."

Trump has vilified voting by mail, telling his supporters without evidence that it is ripe for widespread fraud. As a result, Republicans are expected to vote in huge numbers on Election Day, a wave Trump is banking on to overcome Democrats’ early voting advantages.

While Biden’s team remains confident, others in the party have expressed concern about the campaign’s turn away from traditional registration efforts.

“It’s late in the game now,” state Sen. Jason Pizzo, a Miami Democrat, told POLITICO in late September. “There’s been no pushback from us, meaning that for every 100 doors that Republicans have proverbially knocked on, it’s not like they pissed people off to the point where they’ve run to the Democratic Party because they’re pissed at the GOP.“

While the Biden campaign and Florida Democratic Party have limited in-person registration activities, outside groups continued to register votes. That includes Forward Florida Action, a group led until recently by Democrat Andrew Gillum, who pledged to register 1 million voters after his narrow loss to Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2018.

The group worked with a collection of progressive groups to submit 250,000 voter registration applications. It also shifted to a more digital strategy as the coronavirus pandemic intensified over the summer.

“While Democrats were preparing our voters to vote safely by mail in the pandemic and building up an 800,000 vote-by-mail request advantage, the Republicans continued to put the public at risk by conducting in-person voter registration activities and simultaneously discouraging their voters from vote-by-mail,” said Ryan Hurst, the group’s executive director.

In addition to their topline lead, Democrats also have turned out low-propensity voters, people who do not consistently cast a ballot in election years. Of the more than 2 million votes cast in Florida so far, Democrats have banked 113,000 more ballots than Republicans from people who didn’t vote in the 2016 presidential election.

“These are no party affiliated voters who sat out 2016 because they thought their vote wouldn't matter,” Democratic consultant Kevin Cate tweeted. “Well, they’ve changed their minds this year.”

In the hope of building a wave of in-person Election Day voters, Republicans continued to register huge numbers of people until the final days of Florida’s registration period, which ended Oct. 5. The Democratic advantage was down to 185,000 voters in late September, a number that Republicans whittled down by more than 50,000 in the final two weeks.

“There is clearly a strong correlation in voter registration advantage and Democrat’s success in Florida,” said Ryan Tyson, a Republican pollster and strategist. “That advantage appears to have dissipated.”

Democrats have long held large voter registration advantages in Florida even as Republicans dominated state-level elections, in part because of North Florida Dixiecrats, registered Democrats who for years have voted Republican.

The Democrat lead peaked during Barack Obama’s first run in 2008, when he defeated Republican John McCain in Florida by 3 percentage points. That cycle, Democrats held a 637,777-person registration advantage.

Four years later, the margin had narrowed, but Democrats still outpaced Republicans by 535,987 voters when Obama beat Republican Mitt Romney by 2 percentage points.

Public polling has shown Biden up in Florida by 3 or 4 percentage points, near or within the margin of error for most surveys, and there is an expectation that this year’s presidential race will be won on a razor-thin margin just as it was in 2016, when Trump eked out a one-point victory.

“At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to whose folks are most motivated,” said incoming co-House Minority Leader Evan Jenne, a Broward County Democrat helping run the party’s statehouse races this cycle. “It always comes down to energy, it will again this year.”

Florida company president threatens employee layoffs if Trump loses election

ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS12) - The president of a Central Florida company sent a letter to employees threatening layoffs based on who wins the presidential election, according to WESH in Orlando.

Geroge Daniels, president of Daniels Manufacturing Company (DMC), told employees they may lose their jobs if President Trump doesn't win re-election.

"If Trump and the Republicans win, DMC will hopefully be able to continue operating, more or less as it has been operating lately," the letter reads. "However, if Biden and the Democrats win, DMC could be forced to begin permanent layoffs beginning in late 2020 and/or early 2021."

"Democrats historically always cut military funding, thus reducing military orders," the letter continued. "Secret voting is one of our citizens' most precious rights. If you are legally qualified to vote, I urge you to VOTE in this election," the letter ended.

Good. So tell a republican to do the right thing and vote blue this time. The rest of America is tired of the Florida shithole state being responsible for the candidate with less votes (republican 2000, 2016) getting the nod over the candidate with more votes (Democrat 2000, 2016).

Florida State Representative Says He's Thankful Joe Biden 'Lost' the Election

Florida state Representative Anthony Sabatini expressed thanks on Thursday that Joe Biden "lost" the 2020 presidential election.

Sabatini, a Republican who represents Florida's 32nd district, tweeted the eye-catching comment on Thanksgiving, despite the fact that President Donald Trump lost both the Electoral College and the popular vote nationwide.

"I'm extremely thankful Biden lost in 2020," Sabatini wrote. The Trump campaign has continued to allege that voter fraud and other irregularities tainted the election result, but has provided no evidence to substantiate this.

Sabatini has a history of surprising tweets. On November 21, he wrote: "Kyle Rittenhouse for Congress."

Rittenhouse has been charged with six criminal counts, including first-degree intentional homicide, related to the deaths of two men during a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on August 25.

On Thursday, Sabatini also shared an image of Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) appearing in a cloud over a painting of Native Americans on horseback. This is a callback to conservative attacks on Warren's claims to have Native American heritage.

‘Killing Spree’: DeSantis Extends Ban On Mask Enforcement Amid Florida COVID-19 Spike

“I. Have. No. Words. Anymore,” tweets epidemiologist Dr. Eric Feigl-Ding of the Federation of American Scientists.

By Mary Papenfuss

Health experts and local leaders were stunned Wednesday when Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis extended his order barring towns, cities, and counties from enforcing local mask mandates even amid a disturbing spike in COVID-19 cases.

DeSantis extended an earlier order prohibiting localities from fining people who refuse to wear masks, effectively rendering mandates unenforceable.

He extended the order less than a week after a bipartisan group of mayors pleaded with him to issue a statewide mask mandate. Experts widely regard masks as a simple, effective way to stem the tide of COVID-19. DeSantis is reportedly no longer taking phone calls from mayors.

Chris King, the 2018 Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor, tweeted a news story of DeSantis’ latest move with a comment calling the decision a “killing spree.”

Florida was one of the last states to institute any restrictions to battle COVID-19. DeSantis then allowed restaurants and bars to reopen at 100% capacity beginning in September. That’s when he also barred enforcement of local mask mandates.

Bipartisan governors nationwide are putting mask orders in place as one of the best tools we have to fight #COVID19. It’s deeply frustrating that @GovRonDeSantis continues to block local actions and make it harder for local leaders to keep our communities safe.#MaskUpMiami 😷 https://t.co/32yI1MA5Eo

— Daniella Levine Cava (@MayorDaniella) November 25, 2020
Despite the governor’s order, the city of Miami Beach is planning to enforce its mask mandate — as much as it can — through the busy holiday weekend, WSVN Channel 7 News reported.  It will issue citations and a $50 fine, even though it can’t legally collect the money as long as the governor’s order is in place.

Florida is close to its 1 millionth case of COVID-19 with more than 54,000 hospitalizations and more than 18,000 deaths.

DeSantis has been keeping an extremely low profile this month and wasn’t seen in public for 13 days at one point. He held his last press conference on Nov. 4 — to talk about the election.

“Our governor is nowhere to be found,” State Rep. Carlos Guillermo Smith of Orlando told Spectrum News 13.

“He’s avoiding interaction with the public, he’s not holding press conferences, he’s not taking questions from the media, and there’s a reason,” Smith added. “He doesn’t want to be held accountable.”

Every health care worker in the United States should threaten to strike if their state government doesn’t mandate the most basic Covid protections - like masks and crowd control.

For the love of God, they aren’t United States Marines.

Word is that people who live in Trump supporting shit hole states are slow to get vaccination shots. I hope that's not the case with most of the good people on this forum. I know many of the people on this forum don't live in Florida but I hope the good ones who do live in Florida have enough sense to stay safe and take care of their friends and family, wear the mask and get those shots. BTW, I've never met anyone who openly admitted they were a Trump supporter unless they were surrounded by an angry mob of ivory monkeys wearing stupid looking red caps. Very Happy

Hubby and I both are fully vaccinated, but, because so many others aren't, and because of concerns about what variants may do in spite of vaccination, we still follow all CDC protocols and, though we dearly miss it, don't expect to eat out in restaurants any time in the near future - probably not until at least 2022. In fact, for all intents and purposes we remain in shutdown mode, except for regular bike rides and a weekly masked outing for groceries and other errands. Most medical, dental and vision appointments/procedures are on indefinite hold. It's a worry.

An old girlfriend of mine was going to get surgery on her knee before the COVID outbreak, and decided that since it was an elective thing she'd hold off on it. Then having to sit home during the pandemic and not working on motorcycles all day apparently healed her knee up enough where now she's thinking, "Maybe I won't bother getting it done after all."

I still haven't missed a dental appointment, though. I never go to the doctor unless something's seriously wrong, anyway. I probably should, but, I hate 'em.

* The electoral map doesn't change all that much: The expectations -- and projections -- going into this reapportionment were that the electoral map would move in favor of Republicans because of major expected gains in Republican-friendly territory like Texas and Florida. But Texas gained only two seats and Florida just one -- in each case one seat fewer than most people had thought they would. The shifts are still more helpful to a Republican presidential candidate come 2024 -- but only marginally so. "If the 2020 election had been held under these new counts, Biden would have won with 303 [electoral votes] (instead of 306)," tweeted the Cook Political Report's House editor David Wasserman. "Under most projections, he would have won with just 302 votes, so Census result is a tiny bit better for [Democrats] than expected."

Jimmy Kimmel on Racist, Ron DeSantis signing a law that will fine social media companies that remove anyone who is running for office in Floriduh. He wondered who lives in Florida and was banned from twitter, who might have a 'tiny' hand in this. Lizard tongue DeSantis blubbered that the law has nothing to do with criminal Trump but is for every day Floridians. Trump's boy DeSuckthis went on to compare taking away Boss Trump's twitter platform while allowing Ayatollah Khomeini to talk about killing Jews and that is wrong. Racist Ron's fellow Florida goons applauded and cheered at that point. Kimmel explained that Boy Ron later pointed out on twitter that the Ayatollah died in 1989, 17 years before twitter. Kimmel went on about having to pee in some gas station in the middle of nowhere and the toilet seat has a swastika carved into it. Kimmel wondered why anyone would take the time to carve anything into a toilet seat, let alone something horrible like a swastika. "Anyway, Florida is that toilet seat." It's pretty obvious that Trump is to Ron Boy what Putin was to Trump.

Critics slam Florida's law banning Big Tech 'de-platforming' as 'unconstitutional'
One digital rights advocate called it "a First Amendment train wreck."

By Catherine Thorbecke

Florida governor signs bill to regulate big tech companies

Critics are questioning the constitutionality of Florida's new, first-of-its-kind law that aims to hold social media companies accountable for "de-platforming" political candidates.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the controversial Senate Bill 7072 into law Monday, which imposes fines of $250,000 per day on any social media company that de-platforms candidates for statewide office and $25,000 per day for de-platforming candidates running for local office, according to a statement from the Republican governor's office.

DeSantis, an ally of former President Donald Trump, first signaled his support of the legislation in early February -- shortly after social media companies cracked down on Trump's accounts citing risks of violence in the wake of the Jan. 6 mob at the U.S. Capitol building. Trump is now a resident of Florida.

"If Big Tech censors enforce rules inconsistently, to discriminate in favor of the dominant Silicon Valley ideology, they will now be held accountable," DeSantis said in a statement shortly after signing the bill into law.

The 22-page legislation, among other things, requires social media companies to publish detailed standards on how it determines "how to censor, deplatform, and shadow ban" users. It also prohibits social media platforms from censoring "a journalistic enterprise based on the content of its publication or broadcast," with exception for obscene material.

The law is aimed at "Big Tech" and applies to online platforms that have at least 100 million monthly individual participants globally, according to text of the legislation.

The text of the law has an exception, however, for online platforms operated by "a company that owns and operates a theme park or entertainment complex," such as The Walt Disney Company.

Corbin K. Barthold, the internet policy counsel at the nonprofit think tank TechFreedom, called the law "a First Amendment train wreck."

"When it comes to free speech, a website is no different from a newspaper or a parade: it has a fundamental right to decide what speech it will allow, and what speech it won’t, on its platform," Barthold said in a statement. "Florida is trying to force a few large platforms to host speech they otherwise wouldn’t."

"This kind of blatant content- and speaker-based discrimination is unconstitutional," Barthold added. "And as if that weren’t enough, the law contains a carveout for Disney!"

Matt Schruers, the president of the Computer & Communications Industry Association, a nonprofit tech sector trade group, also called the bill "unconstitutional" in a statement, noting to the loophole for theme park operators.

"This unconstitutional bill threatens to create more opportunities for foreign extremists peddling anti-American propaganda and fewer opportunities for internet-using Floridians," Schruers said. "If the Florida legislature actually believed that efforts to protect internet users from harmful content threatened free expression, it wouldn’t be excluding digital services that own local theme parks."

"The First Amendment prohibits the government from compelling or controlling speech on private websites," Carl Szabo, the president and general counsel at Net Choice, told ABC News in a statement. "By forcing websites to host speech, this bill takes us closer to a state-run internet where the government can cherry pick winners and losers."

Similar legislation has been proposed in states including Arizona and Utah, though they were not passed into law. In Utah, a proposal made it to the governor's desk before it was vetoed.

Earlier this month, Facebook's quasi-independent oversight board upheld the company's decision to ban Trump but said the ban should not to be indefinite.

In January, Twitter's chief executive, Jack Dorsey, stood by the company's decision to ban Trump from the platform but admitted that the action sets a "dangerous" precedent.

The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC News.
