During his first run for president, Barack Obama made one very specific promise to voters: He would cut health insurance premiums for families by $2,500, and do so in his first term.

But it turns out that family premiums have increased by more than $3,000 since Obama's vow, according to the latest annual Kaiser Family Foundation employee health benefits survey.

Premiums for employer-provided family coverage rose $3,065 — 24% — from 2008 to 2012, the Kaiser survey found. Even if you start counting in 2009, premiums have climbed $2,370.

What's more, premiums climbed faster in Obama's four years than they
did in the previous four under President Bush, the survey data show.

The healthcare law was passed and many parts implimented in 2010.

looks as if the ins co's and big pharm are getting rich while we all work to death with staff cuts, cuts in reimbursment and soon to be cuts in services.

Thanks

13 million Americans getting healthcare rebates thanks to Obamacare. Mine went down $10 per pay period.

Obama campaigned for single payer, not premium reduction, as I recall.

After the hysterics we witnesses over what was essentially a warmed-over Republican concept of healthcare reform in the form of a giant gift to the insurance industry, I just cannot understand how anyone could think that single payer was a realistic option. I'm for it too, but the forces aligned against that type of reform were just too daunting at this point in time. Nevertheless, what we got is an improvement over the status quo. And, hopefully over time it can be incrementally improved upon.

I also believe it's an improvement in many respects. However, it's still a gift to the insurance industry, just as you said. That, and the mandate to purchase insurance from a for-profit business, are the parts that stick in my craw. Also, the law does nothing to address the cost of health care.

I think President Obama probably did the best he could, given the resistance he encountered, although I wish he had been stronger on the issue of the public option. Had we had a public option, the mandate might not have been so difficult to accept.

I dont know why I would have expected any other replys.

nothing but blame and the shrunking of responsibility for this failed policy.

I know, its just another promise that he didnt keep. no big deal, im sure sooner or later he will do better.....

It will be great when he does. I bet it will be like, lets set the whole house on fire, then you call the fire truck and Ill get on it and pretend to put out the fire, and when the house is burned to the ground we will blame the city council. Then you can get a photo opt of me in my sexy fireman outfit, because its all about "eye candy" baby. Wink
