I don't know if the President is moving to do this or not. If PaceDog and Markle were here they would be chewing the crap out of this story to extract maximum effect.

I am afraid I would agree with them, as supplying the Syrian rebels or any extremist group with shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles is a very stupid idea.

Those may be fired at a Russian or Assad helicopter or jet one day, and a United Airlines jumbo-jet later down the line. Surely the President has advisers who know this.....

How many generals has he removed?

He's got General Joseph Dunford as Chairman of the JCS. He was a company commander in the infantry battalion I was assigned to at Camp Pendleton for a year in 1980, to be their Air Liaison Officer. He is a really good guy, and I am sure he would advise the President in a correct manner for matters like this one.

It is good to know that quality military folks are reaching the top levels. I have been impressed with all branches of the military after watching cspan and seeing the joint chiefs of staff testifying as to reductions in defense. There are some incredibly smart generals and admirals who are guiding our military which is very encouraging. I believe intelligent cuts can be made, and a changed mission statement which goes back to the concept of DEFENSE, and not weapon systems and deployments which look and feel like an imperial power which is attempting to project power all over the world. That is rarely DEFENSE, but offense.

Obama missed his chance when the Syrian mess first started and there was a fairly organized rebel resistance, they asked for our help in eliminating the Syrian Air Force to level the field but Obama refused. Now it's too late and the original rebel coalition has disintegrated.

Giving anyone Stingers at this point will only cause more escalation.

I agree with you 10,000%.

Is it really worth it to provoke a war with a major power like Russia or China? Those two are not out to communize the world, as was thought during the Cold War. The Muslim world is too disorganized and factious to seriously challenge the hegemony of the industrial powers. Things could radically change in our favor if we simply stopped meddling where we have no business to meddle.

The excuse for our Middle Eastern meddling  was always to protect the oil resources we needed access to. The oil from shale revolution unlocked massive quantities of new oil from U.S. resources. Besides, the climate change nazis are going to ultimately drive us more toward solar and other renewable power alternatives--something that would happen in a handful of decades anyway as available world oil resources become further depleted (yes, I am still a believer in Peak Oil theory).
