Thousands want GOP to let angry voters bring guns to Republican convention in case of ISIS attack

Having weapons at a hotly contested and potentially violent political event may sound like the mother of all bad ideas, but that hasn’t stopped some gun enthusiasts for starting a petition to do just that, Ohio.com reports.

Americans for Responsible Open Carry filed the petition with Change.org this week, and as of Friday morning it had garnered nearly 12,000 signatures.

According to the GOP’s policy on their website, “firearms and other weapons of any kind are strictly forbidden on the premises of Quicken Loans Arena,” where the convention will be held.

The petition claims that “Cleveland, Ohio is consistently ranked as one of the top ten most dangerous cities in America.”

But, “This doesn’t even begin to factor in the possibility of an ISIS terrorist attack on the arena during the convention. Without the right to protect themselves, those at the Quicken Loans Arena will be sitting ducks, utterly helpless against evil-doers, criminals or others who wish to threaten the American way of life.”

The petition also notes, “All three remaining Republican candidates have spoken out on the issue and are unified in their opposition to Barack HUSSEIN Obama’s ‘gun-free zones.'”

It seems reasonably likely that this year’s convention, from July 18-21, will be a brokered one as the Republican party has schemed ways to prevent the current front-runner, Donald Trump, from securing the party’s nomination.

This has prompted Trump to say that there could be resulting violence if he is in fact denied the nomination.

“I think we will win before getting to the convention,” he said. “But I can tell you, if we didn’t and if we’re 20 votes short or if we’re 100 short and we’re at 1,100 and somebody else is at 500 or 400 because we’re way ahead of everybody, I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically, I think you would have riots. I think you would have riots.”

In preparation for the 2006 midterm elections,MoveOn created a new system for soliciting potential voters named Call for Change. As part of the Call for Change effort,MoveOn reported that it placed over seven million phone calls to registered voters. [14]

We should have no-permit-required open and concealed carry nationwide for all US Citizens over 18 who have not been otherwise judicially prohibited by reason of serious criminal activity or mental health ..... just like the State of Vermont.

Further .... I don't think a citizen should have their 2nd Amendment rights suspended for life just for being convicted of any kind of felony.   Suspension of gun rights should be determined during the sentencing process and it shouldn't always necessarily be for life.  And it should be appealable just like any other aspect of a judicial sentence.

EG, would you apply this standard to convicted felons?

Felonies are not all judged to be the same. There are non-violent felonies a person can be convicted of and I think that their right to carry should not be infringed.

I have no problem with Felons being restricted from possessing a gun. The second amendment like any of the bill of rights have never been absolute.
