ONE vote short of overturning the expected VETO from semi-retired President Obama. WHY is President Obama OPPOSED TO PROTECTING AMERICANS?

BI-PARTISAN HOUSE defies Obama, approves bill halting Syrian refugees
By Cristina Marcos - 11/19/15 01:57 PM EST

In a 289-137 vote, the House on Thursday easily approved legislation that requires new screening requirements on refugees from Syria and Iraq before they can enter the United States.

Forty-seven Democrats defied President Obama’s veto threat and backed the bill — enough to override a presidential veto given the six Democrats and two Republicans who missed the vote.
The 47 Democrats who voted against the bill ranged from centrist Blue Dogs, vulnerable lawmakers in tough reelection races and even one member of leadership: Rep. Steve Israel (D-N.Y.), who heads House Democrats' communications efforts.

Two Republicans voted against the bill: Reps. Walter Jones (N.C.) and Steve King (Iowa).

Cowardly and shameful.

Why do we insist on letting the terrorists win every single time?

I got a giggle from Mr. Markle's analysis of overcoming a presidential veto......too funny. Does anybody want to place wagers on the success of a Presidential veto on this bill? I wish we could hand out strokes and handicap some poor souls around here, but heck.......this really is becoming too much fun and a habit hard to kick.

Sal

Sal

I doubt it will even make it to the President's desk.

That makes it no less shameful.

2seaoat

The funny part is only one candidate Christy has talked about the risk of not monitoring visas and those who can enter our country legally. Any rational person can see that it is about 99 to 1 chance that a terrorist attack will involve Americans flying overseas, and flying back. It will involve foreigners enter this country by visa. I think since 2009 with 750,000 refugees there has been 10 who have committed criminal acts, and none were attacks against America.

Political pandering has always existed and would expect nothing less now, but when those same folks allow a huge gap in our protection by not spending committee time on electronically monitoring folks on visas, we will continue to be facing far greater risks from abroad who enter this nation not as refugees, but on a visa.

I honestly believe people are scared. It is embarrassing at best, and it is shameful at its worst on how this great nation who has faced real adversity crumbles like a child scared of the boogeyman in the closet when so easily manipulated by the media and political panic. I hope this shameful episode will pass like the Ebola panic, but regardless we need to address our loose Visa procedures and tighten the same up. The next terrorist act in this country will be a person here in this country legally and not a refugee, or someone here on a visa.

Any Progressive.

How do you vet someone from Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya or any other of the MILLIONS of refugees since they have no documentation, no birth certificates, no records, no passports, no visa's no identification.

They could swear on their Koran that they were BoardsofFL and there would be no way to prove they were not.

This is a political winner for Republicans, because Americans are cowards.

There's no need to lie.

That's just BS.

We are the United States of America, and we will take who we want.

These people are not showing up on our shores by the thousands.

We can pick and choose the cream of the crop - professionals and established families with all of the proper identification.

The vetting will be vigorous and conducted by Homeland Security, the FBI, and counter terrorism experts.

Investigations normally take 18-24 months and sometimes as long as three years.

We are under no obligation to take in anyone who cannot be properly vetted.

And, please don't forget that people who wish to do us harm have much easier and convenient avenues to cross our borders.

Frightened and ignorant is no way to go through life, Ol' Man Markle.

Once AGAIN you did an excellent job of NOT answering the question.

I certainly am not frightened and obviously not ignorant. I'm pretty sure I have proven that during my lifetime.

Try again.

I answered your question, Ol' Man Markle.

I've made the answer to your question big and red, Ol' Man Markle.

Does that help?

I think we've grossly underestimated the reach of ISIS.

Somehow, they've managed to get a sleeper cell devoted to their goals into the GOP primary.

How do you vet someone from Syria, Lebanon, Iraq...

This reminds me of my year in Okinawa in 1979 with a USMC heavy helicopter squadron. We had a pilot, a 1stLt, who was a naturalized citizen from Lebanon, and who was also a practicing Muslim. He had found a mosque on the island somewhere and attended services there weekly. He was a very good pilot, too, as I flew with him as copilot several times. This officer was respected by all of us and was not discriminated against.

All this happened before U.S. foreign policy overwhelmingly got refocused on the Persian Gulf region and the Middle East in general.

I've always heard that okinawa has gorgeous women. Did you notice that z?

You could frame the vetting so only men of military age are corralled and investigated.  Why put old men, women, children through the bullshit?

Just what the fuck is so frightening about refugees?  With the visa waiver system now in place, any citizen of western Europe can come here as a tourist.

I'm far more afraid of whacko Christian fundamentalist republicans than I am of ISIS invaders!

I never noticed anything special about the local women. I spent 2 years there total; first time was for a whole year, and that followed later by two 6-month unit deployments.

You have yet to answer these questions which is because you have NO ANSWER. Your childish name calling is amusing. PROVES you have nothing.

Try again. This time, stick to the subject. It's not really that difficult.

The Latest: Police say woman who died set off suicide vest; 4 officers injured
ASSOCIATED PRESS | Nov 18, 2015 1:42 AM CST

8:40 a.m.

A French police official says a woman wearing an explosive suicide vest has blown herself up in a standoff between police and suspects in last week's Paris attacks.

The official said she is among two people killed in the ongoing standoff in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis. The official, not authorized to be publicly named because of police rules, said four police officers have been injured. No hostages are being held.

Police have said the operation Wednesday is targeting the suspected orchestrator of last week's attacks, holed up in an apartment in Saint-Denis with other armed people.
