My mom unloaded on me every Christmas/birthday/anniversary card I ever sent to her and my Dad. In the mix was an envelope with this:

Bob, I think you may recognize it or at least remember going to the Christmas parties.

Wow,  SheWrites.  Awesome discovery.  Brings back so many childhood memories.

Are the animals pictured on the letter genetic mutations?

No genetic engineering - just nylon.

Chemstrand was a subsidiary of Monsanto.  It didn't have any association with the demonic part of Monsanto.  All mine and SheWrite's ancestors made there was nylon yarn for tires and carpets and such.
And since there was a very big demand for nylon since car tires were transitioning over to it,  the place back then had 6000 employees and was thriving.  That was years before they found out nylon in car tires tends to fail with the heat of highway speeds and cause blowouts.

And boy did they know how to put on a Christmas party for the children of employees.  The gifts we got were what all the kids at the time wanted Santa to put under the tree,  the expensive ones.  And somehow they knew which ones we wanted and that's the ones they had.   They were our second Santa.  lol

And notice back then they were calling them  "Christmas" parties.  Not Holiday parties.

But back then they weren't pushing Jesus like Bill 0'Reilly and the thumpers do today.  Back then Santa was the image of Christmas,  not Jesus.  Santa didn't turn his other cheek.  He just had rosy cheeks.  And that's the way we liked it.  lol

Most of the "Yarn" (Draw twist operators?) ladys wore the blue jump suits and it mandatory for every one to have a lamp or paper weight made from the Nylon left over from the Yarn process. You know, the stuff that looked like stalagmites .

One of my most prized possessions is an ashtray made from the nylon slag.  It's a better ashtray than anything made from ceramics or metal.

That's the first time in years I've heard anyone say that term "draw twist operator".  At one time in my life that was a household word at my house.  lol

And yes,  you've jogged my memory about the blue jump suits too.  I'd completely forgotten about that.  lol

My aunt worked in draw twist.

We had a nylon lamp and ashtray - matching set. Laughing I saw a lamp a couple of years ago at the Copper Possum in Milton. Almost bought it but then, as much as I'm nostalgic, it just didn't work with my decor.

My dad worked there 32 years and yes I went to the Christmas party's and yes we had several well used ash trays. Was there a Spinning room?
