The slowing growth of healthcare costs has extended Medicare's projected lifespan 13 years beyond projections made in 2009, the last report issued before the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The Medicare Hospital Insurance Trust Fund will have "sufficient funds to cover its obligations until 2030," the Medicare Board of Trustees said Wednesday in its annual financial review of the $613 billion program.

This year's projections are much the same as in last year's report, when trustees extended the solvency of the program another 13 years beyond projections in 2009, the last report issued before the passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

..."Once again, these reports demonstrate how the Affordable Care Act has bolstered Medicare and shored up the program's finances," Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said in remarks accompanying the report.

Ben Carson has an idea ....

This is great news. If only our congress could work for the American people and spend their time doing the same. Good governance does not happen by accident. It is hard work by intelligent folks who fix problems, not waste time in committees pretending they are working. We need Congress to be working hard on fine tuning entitlements with revenue changes and cost cutting. This is not rocket science, and it is time for our government to work for its citizens.

So I wonder if they count active re enrolls in that number? I think they do which would skew their number's.

I was looking for that article.

This is what has been happening and it won't change. People sign up during open enrollment that know they have to see a doc, Jan 1 rolls around has physical, gets pills, surgeries etc. Follow up with docs and then drop by April. Then some re enroll the next open enrollment, it has just been a merry go around. Then there are the ones who have figured out you don't get a penalty until you've been uninsured for 3 consecutive months and drop Oct 1 and re enroll for Jan 1.

There is a go around for the penalty though that not too many have figured out yet. There are something like 30 exemption's. I guess you find the forms at IRS or through a tax preparer.

Is it working? Depends on you talk to.

Will it work in the future in present form? NO
