Unfathomable ...

The humanitarian crisis that our misadventures in Afghanistan and Iraq have unleashed on Europe are endless.

What Hath Dubya Wrought .... Screen14

The full horror of the human tragedy unfolding on the shores of Europe was brought home on Wednesday as images of the lifeless body of a young boy – one of at least 12 Syrians who drowned attempting to reach the Greek island of Kos – encapsulated the extraordinary risks refugees are taking to reach the west.

The picture, taken on Wednesday morning, depicted the dark-haired toddler, wearing a bright-red T-shirt and shorts, washed up on a beach, lying face down in the surf not far from Turkey’s fashionable resort town of Bodrum.

A second image portrays a grim-faced policeman carrying the tiny body away. Within hours it had gone viral becoming the top trending picture on Twitter under the hashtag #KiyiyaVuranInsanlik (humanity washed ashore).

Turkish media identified the boy as three-year-old Aylan Kurdi and reported that his five-year-old brother had also met a similar death. Both had reportedly hailed from the northern Syrian town of Kobani, the site of fierce fighting between Islamic state insurgents and Kurdish forces earlier this year.

Justin Forsyth, CEO of Save the Children, said: “This tragic image of a little boy who’s lost his life fleeing Syria is shocking and is a reminder of the dangers children and families are taking in search of a better life. This child’s plight should concentrate minds and force the EU to come together and agree to a plan to tackle the refugee crisis.”

Greek authorities, coping with what has become the biggest migration crisis in living memory, said the boy was among a group of refugees escaping Islamic State in Syria.

Turkish officials, corroborating the reports, said 12 people died after two boats carrying a total of 23 people, capsized after setting off separately from the Akyarlar area of the Bodrum peninsula. Among the dead were five children and a woman. Seven others were rescued and two reached the shore in lifejackets but hopes were fading of saving the two people still missing.

The casualties were among thousands of people, mostly Syrians, fleeing war and the brutal occupation by Islamic fundamentalists in their homeland.

Kos, facing Turkey’s Aegean coast, has become a magnet for people determined to reach Europe. An estimated 2,500 refugees, also believed to be from Syria, landed on Lesbos on Wednesday in what local officials described as more than 60 dinghies and other “unseaworthy” vessels.

Some 15,000 refugees are in Lesbos awaiting passage by cruise ship to Athens’ port of Piraeus before continuing their journey northwards to Macedonia and up through Serbia to Hungary and Germany.

It's certainly true that Obama has been unsuccessful in extinguishing the inferno of violence that is consuming the region.

However, the arsonists were Bush and Cheney.

I'm praying that God will see fit to torture Dick Cheney.  I really like that idea about Cheney being set on fire and being burned for an eternity.  That will give him a taste of what that "shock and awe" he dreamed up was like for the victims of it.
And the best benefit to us of all is,  that once he's set on fire,  we will no longer have to suffer through listening to him run his mouth on cable news like he's been doing.

What a weak attempt at rewriting history with a true progressive mentality, the Iraq and Afghan wars were (and still are BTW) a huge mistake but to blame all Mideast problems on them is truly revisionist. The Syrian conflict started internally well after the shrub was gone and escalated beyond its borders. Obama had a chance to do something about Syria but stayed in his bathroom jerking off instead. I suppose you have conveniently forgotten all of BHOs ludicrous “Arab Spring” bullshit speeches?

Perhaps you need a history lesson:

It's hard to believe that as we have a clown car full of republicans pushing for another war in the middle east - with Paul being the only exception - our forum republicans are spamming the front page with threads about email scandals.

That's about is ignorant as it gets.

Another war in the middle east.  Hmm.  I guess that's OK.  But those damned emails!  That is the real issue here!

I wonder if semi-demented poster Markle will save the graphic photo that Sal posted for his photo gallery of body parts and dead people?

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Israel, the Kurds, and the United States all wanted Syria to collapse as a nation state backed by Iran. Each had political goals and military goals which were satisfied by a continued civil war. People getting their heads removed and Toddlers washing up dead make horrific images, but the reality is that the Syrian Civil War could have been over two years ago, but for the strategic goals of these nations.

Lasting peace in the Middle East is complex. It must start with a complete wind down of military subsidy, and in its place a Marshall Plan of economic aid which enhances trade and cooperation between those nations. President Obama and President Bush share responsibility for what has been done in the Middle East. President Obama is trying to get us out of this mess, but here I must say he shares along with the EU not trying to bring a cease fire to Syria. This will require Russian cooperation and it will require immediate independence from the goals of Israel, who has legitimate security goals which involve a broken Syria, but Europe and humanity can no longer tolerate the same. America must act independently with our national interests coming first. That may be a sit down with Putin and the EU to get multiple issues resolved, because Russia like Israel has played this civil war.
