Why wouldn't wisconsin be the appropriate state to talk about in a thread about walker the super villain?

Chase your own tail donkey.

I will not run away. Yes, President Obama has done a fine job in Wisconsin. However, Kansas cannot be saved despite the President's record economic recovery. The huge growth record at the national level cannot overcome the idiocy of Kansas.

Seagoat wants to blame state republicans fully for kansas... but give obama's federal policies credit for walker's wisconsin.

Perhaps you can provide an intelligent objective rational for that?

In actuality, Scott Walker's economic plan is similar to that of Kansas...and just about any state with a Republican governor...and like, Kansas, it is a failure.

I read a similar story from a Wisconsin newspaper op-ed. Meanwhile, Walker has made himself a laughingstock in Great Britain.

Why can't you get Seaoat's name right? Pressed by the republican right, Kansas's governor drastically cut taxes on the wealthy. Now the state is facing bankruptcy. Of course it's the republicans' fault!

I don't have enough info on Wisconsin to comment.

The thread asks why Scott Walker dodged a question in England about whether he believes in evolution.

The question put Walker in the corner; if he answered honestly, he'd of lost the far right fundamentalist Christian crowd.

That's one of the major flaws of the republican party, trying to satisfy the barely sane and the batshit crowds at the same time.

I'm not sure there are any democrats who deny the reality of evolution.  Do you know any?

Some of these have or are about to exit B/R but economic problems are not always due to factors under the control of the elected:

Yeah ...

... that's not something that actually happened except in the oxygen deprived brains of the denizens of the rightwing echo-chamber bubble.

I know for a fact that Jefferson County, AL was a victim of Wall Street predatory lending. You can research the rest of these cities for yourself. I doubt you have the ability to see beyond your partisan labeling, but give it a shot.

Looting Main Street

How the nation's biggest banks are ripping off American cities with the same predatory deals that brought down Greece

By Matt Taibbi March 31, 2010

"If you want to know what life in the Third World is like, just ask Lisa Pack, an administrative assistant who works in the roads and transportation department in Jefferson County, Alabama. Pack got rudely introduced to life in post-crisis America last August, when word came down that she and 1,000 of her fellow public employees would have to take a little unpaid vacation for a while. The county, it turned out, was more than $5 billion in debt — meaning that courthouses, jails and sheriff's precincts had to be closed so that Wall Street banks could be paid.

Wall Street's Bailout Hustle

As public services in and around Birmingham were stripped to the bone, Pack struggled to support her family on a weekly unemployment check of $260. Nearly a fourth of that went to pay for her health insurance, which the county no longer covered. She also fielded calls from laid-off co-workers who had it even tougher. "I'd be on the phone sometimes until two in the morning," she says. "I had to talk more than one person out of suicide. For some of the men supporting families, it was so hard — foreclosure, bankruptcy. I'd go to bed at night, and I'd be in tears."

This article appeared in the April 15, 2010 issue of Rolling Stone. The issue is available in the online archive.

Homes stood empty, businesses were boarded up, and parts of already-blighted Birmingham began to take on the feel of a ghost town. There were also a few bills that were unique to the area — like the $64 sewer bill that Pack and her family paid each month. "Yeah, it went up about 400 percent just over the past few years," she says.

Wall Street's Naked Swindle

The sewer bill, in fact, is what cost Pack and her co-workers their jobs. In 1996, the average monthly sewer bill for a family of four in Birmingham was only $14.71 — but that was before the county decided to build an elaborate new sewer system with the help of out-of-state financial wizards with names like Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase. The result was a monstrous pile of borrowed money that the county used to build, in essence, the world's grandest toilet — "the Taj Mahal of sewer-treatment plants" is how one county worker put it. What happened here in Jefferson County would turn out to be the perfect metaphor for the peculiar alchemy of modern oligarchical capitalism: A mob of corrupt local officials and morally absent financiers got together to build a giant device that converted human shit into billions of dollars of profit for Wall Street — and misery for people like Lisa Pack..."

The mayor of Birmingham was actually involved in this scandal, but, like many local public officials, didn't realize the scope of the morass. But the Wall Street bankers knew exactly what they were doing. Educate yourself. Read the rest of the article. BTW, I remember when Pensacola's comptroller bought derivatives and was fired for it...that was just 2 brokers from Merrill Lynch. Notice also WHEN this all went down.

Oh, and Scott Walker has developed quite a list of enemies over his union-busting, especially teachers.

And a little known fact...Scott Walker is a cousin of the Bushes. Must be where he gets his incredible hubris. What a zero.
