Why do conservatives get so freaked out about "inconvenient" truths of American history?

Fox news declares a new war to defile Columbus, by, of course, the "left."

According to the far, furry, Christian dominated right wingnuts, no tears need to be shed over what the people from western Europe who wanted all the land, did to the indigenous folks who stood in their way. Nosirreesir, our super patriots from the Christian right argue, what happened to all those filthy, heathen dead Indians was God's will. We need to be downright proud about all the wonderful things we made of America and simply ignore the bad. We need to build patriotism. How else will we be able to prime young men and women to volunteer for military service to protect our "national interests," in the whole wide world?

There's very little territory that hasn't changed hands countless times... it's pretty silly to politicize natural selection.

Look, everyone. The guy who characterizes every day events like paying taxes as something along the lines of being subject to robbery at the barrel of a gun is now essentially saying rape and pillage is OK so long as it is done under the guise of biological superiority.
