Status: Fake (see details below)

Analysis: This is a hoax aimed at convincing the gullible that Barack Obama attended college as a foreign student, and therefore could not have been born in the U.S., and therefore is ineligible to be president.

The first clue that it's a fake is the name, "Barry Soetoro." Though Soetoro was his stepfather's last name and Obama did attend grade school in Indonesia under that name, there's no evidence he used any name other than Barack (or "Barry") Obama while attending college (for example, see the byline of an essay by Obama published in Columbia University's weekly magazine, The Sundial, in 1983: "Barack Obama").

Secondly, it's as easy as doing a Google image search on the phrase "Columbia University Student ID" to locate the original image from which the bogus Obama ID card was made. Issued in 1998, it bears the same identification number as the one supposedly issued to Obama above. The name of the original cardholder was neither Barry Soetoro nor Barack Obama.

Thirdly, as noted on Snopes.com, the university didn't begin issuing digitally generated ID cards such as the one pictured above until 1996. It cannot be anything other than a fake.

So even if the card is fake it's not really a far out assumption given what we know about him and also what he has said himself either outright or in his books and also his family what they have said

So it's not as outrageous assumption as you all would like to try and paint it

Go to the Snopes link I provided. See the actual photo ID that it was taken from (the student ID numbers match). PD probably got it in his daily hate mail.
