That is why I am basically a track and field person.......nothing political about pole vault or 100 meters.

Yes, I guess curling has not caught on in Brazil.

Love the ski jumping, hockey, speed skating, cross country skiing, figure skating, almost all the events. Unlike some others here, I don't much care about who wins or loses. I watch for the pure beauty of the events and that these are athletes who are at the top of their sport and have practiced daily for years to reach that level.
I'm not as enthused about some of the X-Games that have transitioned to the Olympics but they are valid, new sports and the skill of the participants is incredible.
Given 2seaoat's attitude, and I understand his anger, I'm surprised he has a TV and computer.

No Anger. I have always watched skeptical that most of the events in winter Olympics are really just a TV game show obstacle course with ice and snow, which started in an ice fishing hut where gunnar turned to nels after passing the vodka bottle on the ice and said, those damn Greeks started athletic competition, what about us....lets see who can get the vodka bottle closest to the other's chair........hey Gunnar lets add a game where we ski....stop....shoot a rabbit.....collect it...ski shoot a rabbit.....collect it.........I do not know Nels....what if we get to the top of the mountain?......lets see how fast we can ski down, but Gunnar what if there is a cliff........we can jump the cliff, and see how far we land, or we could sit on a sled and come down the mountain, and then put on skates and race around the ice fishing hut.....what should we call these games Gunnar? White guys in an ice fishing hut passing the bottle?.......nah Nels....we will call this the winter olympics.

No doubt that the tv particpants who go on a reality show like survivor work very hard and are dedicated. I cannot even imagine the sacrifices of sitting in the second position of the sled, or the repeated stress on one's wrist as they curled. Oh the humanity. The winter olympics were invented out of thin air in the early 1900s and are nothing more than a variation of a modern tv show or x games, and in my opinion take away from the historic and universally accepted standards of athletic competition in track and field which the summer Olympics have sadly expanded into silly x game type of competition. I am a purist and believe track and field is the olympics, and next year we will have dungeons and dragons added to the competition.
