A Norwegian member of parliament nominated former U.S. National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden for the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday, arguing that his release of classified documents made the world a safer place.

Baard Vegar Solhjell, a former education and environment minister for the Socialist Left party, said Snowden's revelations deepened the public's understanding of the extent to which states spy on their own citizens.

Not at all surprising. The Scandinavian countries are primarily Socialist countries.

Adolph Hitler was nominated for a Nobel Prize by a committee member from Sweden. Sweden was sympathetic to the Nazi's going so far as to aid and abet the Nazi's during WWII.

How come you're equating "socialists" with people who don't like the big brother government spying on it's own people?
Conservatives are supposed to be against a big brother government doing that sort of thing.  It's commies who are supposed to be big on doing that.

I'm glad to know the extent to which the central govt has violated our constitutional rights and liberties.

I won't delude myself that we the people actually care... in fact I don't think anything will matter enough to resist/dissent.

The domestication and conditioning is going along very well.

I figure that even though the USA is becoming a police state and a Fascist economy/government many people still long for the days of individual freedom and true entrepreneurial capitalism. Rush used to preach that back when I listened to him. True small government conservatism is still popular, it's just not likely to be seen again until after the revolution.

That's a very good question,  pacedog.  I've had the same question for years and have never been able to get a handle on what the answer is.

"Liberals" did have their own nationally syndicated talk radio programming which was just as partisan and just as much of a mouthpiece for their political party.
It never really garnered a radio audience to amount to anything and finally just died.

The answer for why that fails may also be related to why the same thing happens with cable tv news.  MSNBC is just as partisan and just as much a  mouthpiece for it's political party propaganda as Fox News is.  But,  just like with talk radio,  Fox News draws a crowd and MSNBC does not.

Is it because a lot more of the country is republican than it is democrat?
Well obviously not because voters put democrats in charge of the white house and the senate.

I think there's a different reason for why this is.  I think most democrats prefer to receive a more subtle delivery of political propaganda.  Rather than the screaming and ranting and emotion of talk radio and cable news,  they are more receptive to listening to something like NPR and PBS.  They like a softer version of political propaganda.
That's my take on it for what it's worth (probably nothing).

There's also another parallel to this.

Most conservative Christians want to be fed fire and brimstone and ranting.

Most liberal Christians want to receive their religion in a less emotional way.

It's all part of the same thing.

Hate and intolerance has always drawn a large audience in the United States.

Father Coughlin proved that decades ago.

Fearful people are insecure people, so they need to have their fears and intolerance validated.

Roger Ailes and Rush Limbaugh understand this.

The audience is still large, but it's getting a little smaller every day.
