If everyone paid something, it would be fair. Everyone would then have a stake in how their taxpayer money is spent. No one should pay zero and no one should pay nearly 40%.

Three years ago I did consulting work just because I was bored... the self-employed tax meant I broke even. The system is a penalty.

That can't be right. Those tables would indicate my taxes would more than double what I payed last year.

So...aside from adjusting the bracket amounts for inflation and the new top tier bracket addition....they're exactly the same as they were last year?
