Finally, they are focusing on fixing the border.....it will never be 100% secure, but this is a great way to increase employment, and lower the undocumented crossings. If I heard it correctly they are talking about electronic visas.....finally.....the border is just one point of concern......over stayed visas are equally a problem.

I think drones are part of the package too. It would be a huge blow to the criminal cartels... particularly the human trafficking.

I think they plan on putting land mines all across the mexico border.

They are saying one agent every 1000 yards 24/7. Couple this with electronic monitoring and I am all in with the plan. Reagan's immigration reform lit the economy on fire. It will do it again as 10 million legals now apply for credit, homes, large consumer items, and mainstream.....huge win for America, but if you do not secure the border......it is simply stupid......start with the border and get it done.

Not a chance. President Barack Hussein Obama and the Democrats want an open border where all those illegal immigrants may vote as they can today.

President Obama and the Progressive believe that "rich" people are lucky and steal from others. He kisses the behinds of those who worship him and happily take their money and laugh at them behind their backs. He sincerely believes the rich must give up a large part of the wealth they earned in order to spread I around. Well, everyone other than themselves as hey lavish themselves and thumb their noses at who they believe are peons beneath them.

Agree....over stayed visas are a huge problem and those that have expired visas shoud be gone...Too bad that politicians DECADES ago ignored this problem which has resulted in this out of control situation today....This will be a massive and expensive operation...

Come on Mr.Markle......you know historically the biggest opponent to a closed border has been the Chamber of Commerce......folks in the Chamber of Commerce are hardly Democrats.   The truth is that there are multiple organizations and special interest groups who like the border open.   The fact is that this legislation which puts the primary focus on a secure border is sensible, and immigration reform will allow America to experience a huge economic boom as people leave the underground economy and enter the real world.....as a real estate person....you know what happened with housing the last time citizens had a path to citizenship......good things are coming.....take a deep breath.....some things simply are not political......they are correct.

There you go......we can collect the ladders and recapture some of the cost for the border security.

They can't completely seal off the border... It has to be porous enough to allow illegal drugs to enter the country unfettered. Many Wall Street elites profit from this trade, and that is why you will never see the border mined and manned with soldiers.

Once the fence is complete the EPA, PETA, and other groups will scream that is should be torn down because it's destroying the ecology of the area and the human rights groups will be screaming how demanding a VISA from anyone is a human rights violation.

Easier to just open the floodgates and allow 20 legal applications, with over half of those being from SE Asia, for every illegal amnesty applicant the Dummycrats demand.

Besides I like Chinese and Hindu food and think there should be a Chinese and Hindu restaurant in every town in the United States.

Where will the money come from to support that many new agents?

I am of the belief that the path to citizenship should include serious fines.  I am talking about 5k a person over a five year path to citizenship.  I do not consider these folks anything more than breaking a traffic law, and I do not consider it a criminal violation on the first offense, but more like a traffic citation.    A person who gets a DUI ends up spending thousands of dollars, and I do not see why the fines should not be more than proposed, and most of those dollars be applied to security......this would raise 10 billion a year minimum, which could be applied to offset border costs.  We need to use our brains and collect funds from the people who are causing us to expend on this protection.

There will NOT be a secure border, not a chance in heck.

Janet Napolitano has the power, in the current bill, to veto the fence. She will not allow it to be built and if anyone thinks they will double the number of agents, they are living in another universe.

Housing went well after Ronald Reagans amnesty. How many illegal aliens were there then? Four thousand? Five? Of low income people had nothing to do with the improvement in real estate. It had to do with President Reagan lowering interest rates from eighteen percent down to ten percent and they continued down during the George H.W. Bush administration. THAT helped the real estate market.

Could you afford the house you are living in with an 18% interest rate? Neither could anyone else.

Seaoat, where is money going to come from for 20k more border agents and why not money for ICE agents? There are 5000 ICE agents in the entire US. The LA police department has 10000 cops, doesn't that seem odd?

It is a political bluff. I agree completely that is way too much money. I think we can secure the border with more technology, and maybe a few new people. I think far more important is the idea of gps visas......I really really like that idea because most of the illegals I know over stayed their visas.

The house does not want immigration reform, so they requested ridiculous security at the border demands which would be tied to the naturalization process. We need to tighten the border. Ronald Reagan got this right, what he did not get right was closing the damn door. Right now we are near zero infiltration, and some argue a net loss of illegal immigrants. Slight improvements without breaking the bank........but as certain as I believe in a path to citizenship with large fines.......we need the border secure........there is no way we can afford the expenditures which are being thrown around.....this is dilatory, and with Leahy throwing in the gay marriage consideration in the bill.....I am convinced the Democrats want to go into 2014 November with no immigration bill......they will blame the Republican House, but there is no Fricking way real conservatives are going to pass a 20 billion dollar a year increased budget line item.....will never happen....so to answer your question....bluffs and politics.
