The Common Core State Standards Initiative was an effort initiated in 2009 by the National Governors Association and Council of Chief State School Officers to create national curriculum standards for K-12 education. Subsequently, the U.S. Department of Education incentivized the adoption of Common Core Standards through its Race to the Top program. To date, all but five states have adopted the Common Core State Standards Initiative.

Estrada says the Common Core curriculum allows for the teaching of a worldview which places the United Nations above the American Constitution.
“You know the worldview that’s being taught in the Common Core? It is the United Nations is better than our Constitution and our Declaration of Independence,” he said.

I mean, you have the classics being abandoned for instead reading executive orders from President Obama. What is up with this? Why are we leaving ‘Grapes of Wrath’ and, you know, ’1984′ to instead read executive orders from the president

Watch this people, this could be the final nail and no one is watching.

Are there any examples of what this guy claims is going on with the curriculum or are we just supposed to take his word for all these things?

I didn't have time last night to get my hands on any actual study books, not sure if I can. I did a little research and you will notice the term "internationally used a lot, and global.

http://www.ascd.org/publications/newsletters/policy-priorities/vol16/issue4/full/Coming-to-Terms-with-Common-Core-Standards.aspx

above is a ink from an advocate of the curriculum.

there was some debate against it on NPR
http://www.npr.org/2013/04/14/177175296/core-curriculum-puts-education-experts-at-odds

Now while I havnt had time to find that part that is one of many things that appall me about this I don't think that teacher would lie and ive seen stuff like this pop up in my children's books and in class. I got into a big argument with the principle at Escambia high one because of some stuff they were doing.

I think this is worth a look at because our president IS a global minded president. he does not hold the view of American exceptualism that most of us grew up with. He DOES view the UNas the ultimate power of the world, h proved that when he reported one of his own states to them. So yes I think this is a very serious assault on brainwashing the rest of American exceptualism out of our youth, not to mention its a proxy nationalization of our education system.

We seem to be proxy nationalizing a lot of things lately. No one notices.

I bet school officials are still laughing about the day the semiliterate, white trash, ignoramus came to school to criticize the curriculum.

Let's add some sausage to this gumbo and allow the teaching of creationism in schools.

Why not...?

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/04/15/louisiana-governor-ive-got-no-problem-with-creationism-in-public-schools/

I do not envy teachers and the tug of war rope they have become because of outside influences and folk with agendas to use propaganda on developing minds.

This is a state-by-state initiative, not a national one. Teachers have played a major role in its formulation and implementation.

The states following along because of the Federal dollars following the program and nothing less. Teachers/administrators are being force fed this in inservice after inservice. They have no choice to listen because evaluations are going to be formatted after the learning goals set in place by this system. I would envision that American History as we have known it, will not be taught to kindergarten through grade 3 the way we learned it back in the day unless you send your child to a private school. Aside from that reason and wanting my child to have religion as part of her school day, is why my youngest does attend elsewhere.

Part of it is that we are downplaying of America's foundation to try and make others who are not native, feel more accepted. Part of that is the elimination of high school level American history classes that focus on the American Revolution and WASP colonization of what was called The New World from roughly 1607 (Jamestown) through the first five Presidents. High school history now begins at the Civil War and moves forward. All of the colonization and revolution pieces are left behind in middle school which is in my opinion, quite sad since most kids critical thinking and analysis kicks in during high school. Oh, they may get some watered down version in college somewhere, but American exceptionalism and the roots of this nation will not be emphasized. As a matter of fact, they will be marginalized. If they do get a few of the profs at UWF for these parts of American History, then they will be quite lucky because a lot of them know their content and will vividly teach it in lecture.

Well stated. WASP Nationalism will never die off as long as there is home schooling.

It amuses me that we as a society wish to get the God in them soon while they trust us because we're 2-3 times bigger than them, and have an answer for where the sun goes when it gets dark. Pretty amazing in light of the fact that they also believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and crime drama on TV.

Why isn't the whole idea reversed...? Send our children to day care, kindergarten, and public schools until they reach the 8th grade. At that point they are enrolled in school's that stress Religious and Patriotic curriculums....the kind that says George Washington threw that coin across the cherry tree.

Raw, unadulterated history will never be taught again. Imagine teaching the truth about a group of moonshining slave owners, most with British accents who aligned w/ Deism and kept concubines.

Not gonna happen.

Hitler was all about indoctrinating the youth, and starting early and repeating it often, except he was pushing German exceptionalism.

The USA is the best thing going on this planet, but we are not without our faults and character faults. To deny so is wrong.

I think that there are far too many poor influences to let a kid do what he wants until 8th grade when peer pressure really exerts itself and a kid decides to rebel if you change his/her peer group. The beginning of high school/end of 8th grade is when lots of kids mentally start checking out of their families and become enthralled with the peer group/behaviors that they associate with at the time.

To each his own.

I didn't say anything like that....not even close. Teaching moral and ethical behavior is very important. We're not talking Lord of the Flies here.

So you have a problem with allowing the teaching of a cultural difference in the classroom if it is made optional for the students to take?

Most of the country right now for some reason is sitting mouth WIDE open for the gov shit to eat.

Thanks God some of us are not, although I do not think its going to be pretty ride for those of us who can see.

But cultural diversity and it's recognition by our institutions is an important part of education.
