It seems to me as if this happens more often when the wife predeceases the husband and not so much when it's the other way around. I wonder if there are any statistics that show average life spans after the death of a spouse? With one of my businesses I have to occasionally spend time at assisted living facilities and skilled nursing facilities and it just seems as if there are more women than men residing there.
