If I have two words I want to search for, for instance LIVE QUAIL, I put them in quotes "live quail". That way, I don't get results for LIVE and separate results for QUAIL.

Say I get a lot of results for LIVE QUAIL CAGES, I can put a minus to exclude a search for the word cages, thusly:

"live quail" -cages
