I'm surprised no one has started a thread on this so here it is. I think it's a good idea but not where he wants it built.

Like I said in the Blue Wahoos area, I feel a YMCA building would be better than a "private" development of offices or condos.

Mr. Studer said the property may remain "vacant" or get a building. If no building is constructed, I prefer to call the property "available" for use by the public for public gatherings.

It is funny how people look at things. A developer considers the park as vacant land... a waste...

I agree. The open space has so much potential, but if they snuggle it in on the Southwest corner, and they leave the wide open middle, I think the community would still have an amazing thing. All over this country folks are passing bonds to just buy open space.....and keep it open. The public has already bought this beautiful open space, but policy makers are stuck on the horns of a dilemma........somehow open space must pay for itself, or in the alternative the open space is filled with revenue producing buildings which pay......for the park. I think middle ground is needed. Much of the development belongs across the street in old stinky, but this would be a wonderful non profit portal to the bay......it also could be a revenue source for the Y if they tied it into a marina ran through the Y as a non profit enterprise. I think most people would agree with Eric about keeping this beautiful park open, but I think the Y would be a good fit and they should keep the core middle area open.....just my opinion.

The YMCA will be a convenient gym for the condo owners, future condo and office dwellers in the downtown area.

Does Seville Square not bring benefit to the City of Pensacola as "vacant" land? I believe so... and I believe the CMP could as well.

That property isn't large enough to crowd it with buildings and leave room for the public to roam. With buildings, public gatherings in the remaining space and the amphitheater area will be judged to be an irritant to the occupants of the buildings. It already has a huge ball park on it.

Is this representation accurate? It makes the ball park look so much smaller.

That is because it will be centrally located. LOL

@Eric.. Could you please mark where Mr Studers new office building will be? Thanks.

Right where you see the graphic S Devillers street and immediately west is a rather large detention area which would be perfect for a building which met what I believe is the 16 foot building flood line(I may be off by a foot). If the building covered the detention area on standard precast pier system, there would still be wonderful access to the water, and space that the public would not use anyway and could be fully utilized allowing the large open area to remain in tack from corner to corner on the south face of the Bay.

I have been involved in planning buildings above a detention area and it is great utilization of the space and keeps the area open for the public. It really is a big space when you walk it.

My understanding was that it was going to be at the juncture of the wishbone south of the parking where it is currently grassy.

Yep, it'll be between the ballpark and Main Street.

It was mentioned during the planning stages...Condo owners on the property would benefit the park by being able to watch over the area after hours. Yea right!!!!!

Studer says.
.“You’ve got a standalone stadium that has periods of activity but also periods of tremendous inactivity going on,” Studer said. “Having a world-class Y on a site that’s a community asset could get a lot of kids and families down there, and a lot of activity down there pays for itself over and over again.”

WTF? Remember all the bull dust about how it was a "Multi" Stadium and was going to be used in the off season? Now Studer wants a "Y: in the park so there will be activity in the area..

The CMP is in big trouble and will only get worse.

But the agency’s ability to pay those debts in coming years is in doubt.

A memo from CRA Administrator Ryan Winterberg-Lipp said the agency is on its way to collapse by 2017, and city officials have said those financial woes are a top concern.

Interest from private developers at the park has not materialized the way officials had hoped when drawing plans earlier in the decade — a large contributor to the CRA’s woes.

So you would like a 10 story condo where the Y would be built, as long as CRA was cash flowing? Which is it? Or is the truth no matter what happens you will complain?

Pratt also said she hopes this will spur a larger discussion on future development at the park.

“This is the impetus we need to sit down and have a discussion about how we develop the Maritime Park as well as the (former) sewage treatment site,” she said. “What is our vision
?

You might think they had already thought of that. The answer is simple. "Ask Studer"

The current YMCA is already too expensive for us. $700.00 a year (and that's a discount through my employer) is more than this two-person family can absorb. We ditched our YMCA membership three years ago. I can't imagine the cost of a membership at a brand, new waterfront YMCA.

I think you are right, Joanie. This will be nothing more than an upscale gym for those who can afford it.

This the same YMCA that closed the Activity/Sports park on Lillian hiway and 65th ave. What a joke......

I have been an active member of the "Y" for about eight years. The parking lot on the Palafox side is usually always full. There is additional parking in the rear.
What I am saying is that there is very limited parking at the Ballpark.

What I jokingly said earlier was true. The area is in the flood plain. A big surge after a storm could be disasterous. I hope it never happens. God forbid.

Good Point Mr Yellar. We need a good/Great YMCA. My son really benefited from their programs. Downtown in Stooderville would be one of the worse places to build one..Maybe on North Palafox, The old Coca-Cola plant.? They will need room to expand if necessary. A water front YMCA is not a good idea. Maybe Cool heads will prevail.

Something is wrong with the entire deal. They(YMCA) dont know how much money they have, they dont know the size or design of the building but Quint wants them to make a multi million dollar decision in 45 days or he will cry and go home. Stay tuned..

Are there any"cool heads" among the GOBs.
They will be involved in this new joke.
