Half of those people can work.Since SS has allowed people to work parttime indefinitely and keep their check that's what they are doing.

I need more info than what's being provided by CNS. I don't care for their news gathering/reporting tactics.

Rise in Social Security Disablity Claims

A recent article in the Washington Post has raised concerns about the ability of the Social Security Administration (SSA) to keep up with increasing demands by applicants for its disability benefits. According to the Post, applications rose an alarming 21% from 2008 to 2009. This rise has been attributed to everything from the troubled economy to the aging Baby Boom generation. The online magazine Slate states that there are more than nine million Americans receiving around $180 billion a year in Social Security disability benefits, if you count disabled workers of all ages and disabled adult offspring.

Regardless of the cause in the increase in applicants and the amount of benefits paid, lawmakers and commentators worry about the strain the increase has placed on the Social Security system. All agree that at the very least the lag time between applying for disability benefits and the actual granting of those benefits has increased.

The figure originates from the Social Security Administration itself.

Look at the figure for "DI Trust Fund" "Disabled Workers"...

Simply do a Bing search.

We are becoming an entitlement society. People seeing the end of their unemployment are applying for disability rather than a job. They have become accustomed to that standard of living and don't want it to end. Easier than working for a living. Section 8 housing, disability payments, food stamps, free cell phone, reduced high speed internet, kick back and tell the "rich" they shall support them since they are ENTITLED.

Like Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, California and other entitlement governments, there are far more piling into the wagon than pulling the wagon resulting in....
