Don't get me wrong when I say he should not be extradited. I couldn't care less about Assange's mental or physical state at this point. I agree completely with the British government that he could have left that embassy at any time he wanted to, all he had to do was to be willing to face the justice system in England. And don't forget, there are also sexual charges against him in another country. This guy is not an angel who is being tortured.
If he were being extradited for his interference, along with the Russians, in our election, I'd be all for it. But that is not what this is about.
Our DOJ is hunting a test case to convict a journalist of publishing material that originally came from a stolen source. They want to limit the ability of the press to keep the public informed about what is really going on behind the scenes of the government,
I'm personally glad that Assange posted the information that Chelsea Manning gave him about our war involvement, I only wish he had had more information. That is getting the truth out and is the job of the press. It is not the job of the press, especially the foreign press, to infiltrate computers and spread propaganda to influence our election outcome. But the DOJ, under Barr, doesn't want Assange for that.. He's not interested. He only wants to make it more difficult for newspapers to find sources they can use. Kill the free press and you own the country. That's why Democrats have to be on Assange's side in this one, and it really is galling to have to do that.
