As much as I hate what Assange apparently did, why the about face from Donnie Deutschebag?

I need to add that the attempt to prosecute him apparently has no connection to the 2016 election.  He's been charged with 17 counts for his reporting on the Iraq War killing of civilians.

No. My understanding is that what they want to charge him with is reporting on information that was stolen from its source. He didn't do the theft himself, he only reported the news. It is very common for reporters to do this. If the information is verifiable, they serve the public good by reporting it without necessarily knowing where it originally came from.
Wanting to bring him to the US is part of our government's plan to help shut down sources to our news agencies. If he were convicted, it would severely limit the freedom of the press in America.
It's hard to argue on the side of Julian Assange, but this is an end around play to limit our freedoms by this Justice Department  and it doesn't need to happen.

It's a travesty. He's not even an American citizen. I'm glad anytime light is shone on our enormous central govt.

Don't get me wrong when I say he should not be extradited. I couldn't care less about Assange's mental or physical state at this point. I agree completely with the British government that he could have left that embassy at any time he wanted to, all he had to do was to be willing to face the justice system in England. And don't forget, there are also sexual charges against him in another country. This guy is not an angel who is being tortured.
If he were being extradited for his interference, along with the Russians, in our election, I'd be all for it.  But that is not what this is about.
Our DOJ is hunting a test case to convict a journalist of publishing material that originally came from a stolen source. They want to limit the ability of the press to keep the public informed about what is really going on behind the scenes of the government,
I'm personally glad that Assange posted the information that Chelsea Manning gave him about our war involvement, I only wish he had had more information. That is getting the truth out and is the job of the press. It is not the job of the press, especially the foreign press, to infiltrate computers and spread propaganda to influence our election outcome. But the DOJ, under Barr, doesn't want Assange for that.. He's not interested. He only wants to make it more difficult for newspapers to find sources they can use. Kill the free press and you own the country. That's why Democrats have to be on Assange's side in this one, and it really is galling to have to do that.

Ummm... you do know that Obama wanted him too... right?

Obama even went so far on leaks that he wiretapped the press. Seems silly partisan to evoke party.

Assange is nothing but a propaganda agent, working for an enemy government. He should be treated accordingly. Extradited for trial if you want to be kind...
