I don't think many people really care about Trump screwing around. But it is pretty funny since we've all had to listen to right-wing Christians endlessly talking about their morals and how everyone-who's-not-them are so morrally corrupt, etc. etc. Years and years of that tiresome tripe.

I mean, they are plate-spinning the shit out of things to avoid having to admit, "You know what? We don't believe any of that Jesus crap, either, it's just something we use to control the dullards!"

Trump screws around on his wife and the "moral majority" shrugs and says, "Ehhhh, whatchagonna do?" They have zero integrity left now. I personally know four people who've given up on their religion in the past year because it's all been one-straw-too-many for 'em.

That's the part of it I find interesting, the way it flips the sordid underbelly of Christian-conservatism on its back and slits its throat. I don't really care if Trump cheats on his wife, because (A) I think that their marriage is a joke, anyway -- nobody could really love that guy, she was just gold-digging and he was wanting a trophy, and (B) Trump cheats everybody, anyway -- check out some of the people who've gotten stiffed building things for him, it's what he does. What his cheating says about him isn't half as interesting/amusing as what it says about the people who support him and what they're willing to accept from their side, and not willing to accept from anyone else. And it makes it clear they're a cult at this point -- they're not going to hold him accountable if he takes a whiz in their face. They're fine with whatever he does. He's L. Ron Hubbard to 'em. Belonging to the cult is more important than integrity.

Watching that is the real fun of it all.

Politically, the interesting part is... where'd that payoff money come from? Is campaign finance fraud involved? Did he violate the public trust or break campaign finance laws? I don't know if he did or didn't, but that's a fairly big deal if it turns out to be the case. If Cohen paid her six figures, he went way beyond the allowable contribution level, and Trump's campaign didn't report it. What'll need to be determined is if it's election related (and it's kind of a joke to pretend that it isn't) and if Trump knew about it (and it's kind of doubtful that he didn't because, c'mon, who's gonna pay out the kind of money Stormy and the Playboy Playmate were getting and not expect reimbursement? And with a contract having to be signed by Trump?

So that matters. More than whatever Trump did with his lil' cheatin' Cheeto.
