This "scandal" is being kept alive by the likes of Donald Trump and Sean Hannity.
The allegation is that Hillary Clinton personally made the decision to approve the sale of this Canadian company to the Russians.
The truth is that the State Department was one of nine - count em' - nine agencies involved in the decision, all of which saw no national security risks related to the sale.
Each one of the nine agencies appointed a single representative to determine the merits of every every sale under consideration.
At the time of the potential Uranium One sale, the person representing the State Department on CFIUS was Jose Fernandez, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs.
This was never under Clinton's purview, as it was something considered a lower-level function, one best left to someone with specific expertise in the issues involved.
What's more, final approval was formally provided by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which noted that THE MINES WOULD REMAIN UNDER THE CONTROL OF US SUBSIDIARIES, since Uranium One doesn’t hold an NRC export license.
Again, NONE OF THE URANIUM IN QUESTION WAS ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE US -just one reason CFIUS signed off on the deal, as did the NRC and President Obama.
Did the Russians attempt to influence the decision?
Of course, we know the Russians try to influence everything.
But is that the reason the sale was approved?
Of course not.
