Joani -- this Bud's for you.

Tell us why it's okay for our police to kill 1,000 of our fellow Americans this year.

And tell why I'm wrong in saying we are much more likely to be murdered by a violent, aggressive cop than an Islamic terrorist.

The Washington Post says I'm right.

The police state has evolved into the modern version of the old slave militias. There role has become to keep black people in their place. The fact that black folk are dying at a greater proportion has historically been ignored where in my lifetime a lynching was tacitly supported by the general population. Nixon started the southern strategy. All my relatives in Alabama went from die hard democrats to Republicans because in part of the resistance to Democratic sponsored Civil rights legislation. The key component to the Southern Strategy was "law and order" which simply was the code for, we may have been forced to eliminate Jim Crow, but we will criminalize drugs which were once legal, and with the use of the felony disenfranchise the black community and be the army of occupation to keep black folk in line. This core group of Dixiecrats still had 80% of all military bases, and because of the collective poverty of the old confederacy the military represented employment. So the police state and military state become pillars of the new Republican Party taken over by dixiecrats. The chances of force reductions in police forces or military forces has become a political question which solidifies dixiecrats faster than someone suggesting that we should have background checks before the sale of a gun. If you can find elected officials who have the courage to suggest force reductions, I will show you somebody walking around with a bull's eye on their back. You cannot stop police carnage until you change the politics of oppression.

We've had 40 years of oppression for marijuana...assets seized, lives destroyed, people used as "confidential informants" who were, in many cases, more dangerous than the people they ratted out...

And the racist authoritarian Attorney General is going to make it worse. Trump's an incompetent buffoon but Sessions is the stuff of nightmares.
