We have some friends who are in town on Monday and we have never gone to a concert at the Saenger theater, but have always enjoyed Gordon lightfoot, and were thinking about inviting them. The only problem is on a Monday, most restaurants are closed. The concert is at 8pm, and I was looking for some suggestions for restaurants other than Jackson or fish house which are three to four blocks from the Saenger theater. I will have to drive back to Northwestern Hospital at noon Tuesday and probably will make it an early night. They are staying with their grandkids at orange beach, and we can only socialize a couple of days as I hope to be back by Thursday with our grandkids coming down Friday.

Surely there must be someone on this forum who can help. I know very little about downtown, much less its restaurants and their relation to the Saenger. Maybe you need to put "restaurant" in your thread title somewhere, Sea? In any event I hope you can do this -- enjoy the evening with your friends -- without wearing yourself out before your return trip. Let us know how it goes.

Have lately been thinking about buying a Gordon Lightfoot collection on CD.... Never have learned/played his songs but could use some new/old folk material.

Was living in the Midwest (near Lake Erie, not Superior) when the Edmund Fitzgerald went down, and Lightfoot's song about the tragedy was and is so very haunting...

Our friends called last night and they were going to be in Nashville tonight, but because of a conflict with work, they will not be able to make it until later this month. We do not have to worry about the restaurant now, and will try to make the concert ourselves. I will try to order our tickets today, and do not care about what seats we get. My biggest problem is going to be discomfort, but we will take it easy all day on Monday, and I can now return to Illinois early on Tuesday as my shots are Wed afternoon. My daughter and the grandkids come down next Friday so I will have to turn right around and return.......but now I have both friends and the grandkids waiting the next week.

New World Landing....Chef Gus SiliVos has the new Skopelos restaurant there. Skopelos was one of Pensacola's premier restaurants. Great Greek inspired seafood and fabulous steaks.

I could not make the concert. I am exhausted and will have to get up at 7am and drive to the project and finish up a boat ramp with some four to six inch granite rock because once I dump a load of rock for the base, the turbidity in the water causes me to lose my angle. I hope to pour concrete next Monday, and wanted to just leave at 7 am, but after each dump, I had to wait an hour to see where to place the rock with the bobcat. I will drive for about 12 hours and sleep in a rest area because I sleep best in the sitting position, and then make my hospital visit by 1 pm and turn around and head back. I have to leave early because my wife was going to return my son's trailer next Friday, but we have decided to she will return with me on April 10th so I have to take my son's trailer now because he needs it to cut his MIL's lawn. So much stress just to get back to enjoy the grandkids on Friday, so a bucket list item has been delayed. I will try to catch him somewhere this summer, but we got back to the house a half hour ago and I had not even bought tickets and it was a 45 minute drive......too much to do......too little time.

I am so envious, but your Mom deserves a relaxing evening of Gordon's eternal youth as he ages his songs still are forever young. I wish your dad could have been 35 and your mom could have enjoyed this concert with him, but you know what he will be smiling down on both of you this evening enjoying the music and the thought that his lovely wife and daughter will live life to its fullest, ......so enjoy. I so wanted to go, but I hit the wall.

Aww, Seaoat. Thank you for the warm words. My mom and I really do appreciate it. So much.

He just played "Carefree Highway" and "Sundown." Intermission right now. They are very good, and I recognize more songs than I realized. I'm sorry you didn't get to attend.

On the other hand, they make you go through metal detector wands and bag checks now. Made people keep arriving through the first act. And you'd think older folks wouldn't be recording and taking flash photos through the show. But, then again, I guess I can understand it considering Gordon has been around so long.

The Saenger theater is the best place to see a show in this town . My Opinion.

But where does one have to park, and typically how long to find a space and how far to walk, say, on a rainy or extremely hot and humid evening?  The parking situation is what keeps hubby and me from having much to do with downtown Pensacola.

RealLindaL

Sea, sorry you missed the show, but there was just no way from what you said.

If it's on a Monday night you shouldn't have any problem finding parking there's also a garage two blocks away. Maybe 3. Parking on the street is free after business hours I'm pretty sure.

Thanks, pole. Wasn't actually thinking about the Lightfoot concert nor any particular event/date. Am just intimidated by downtown parking challenges in general, especially in bad weather. I know, I'm a wimp.
