Faculty and Students Do Not Want Gaetz to be Next UWF President

Will opposition to Gaetz influence UWF board?

The rumor mill has it that Collier Merril and Lewis Bear are going to strong-arm the Board of Trustees into nominating Gaetz above all other selectees. This will mean that the selection board and all other applicants wasted their time and effort. We’ll know tomorrow.

Gaetz is a career politician with no teaching experience, and he does not hold a PhD. His consideration has been overwhelmingly opposed by the UWF Faculty Senate, and students have started an online petition, “Argos Against Gaetz.”

UWF Provost Martha Saunders is supported by all to be the successor to Dr. Bense, and has the continuity to make the transition a smooth one.

Will the GOB Network prevail for this one? I am not holding my breath, knowing the history of the way things happen here in Escambia County.

There is hope where good people stand up to the politics of a democratic machine. You see the local politics of the panhandle are pure democratic machine politics where these dixiecrats have adhered themselves to the Republican Party because they are the dog whistle party now fighting equal protection for all citizens, but surprise.....it looks like there are some citizens who want to fight the machine. That is encouraging........someday this monolithic political machine will be torn apart and from the ruins hopefully we will see justice and equality.

Gaetz shoved all his ESE kids into charter schools to remove them from state scores that count against the okaloosa county schools and that is how his district  miracles a high state ranking even today.

Allegedly the powers that be are afraid UWF will never be a top tier school and they Gaetz lobbying ability and connections with the state can prevent the university from dropping into permanent obscurity if he gets the post. The problem is that he hasn't been gone from state government long enough to be calling in favors.

Do not call it the "democratic machine". It is not. It is the crummy political backscratching of YOUR PARTY, Seaoat.

UWF is not a second rate school. Anyone promoting that idea probably thinks Gaetz is qualified to lead it. No PhD, and a clause that bars him from negotiating with the state for the interests of the university. If you want to send UWF into obscurity, just allow this political hack to run it. BTW, I signed that petition.

I'll do that tomorrow morning. I got my MS degree at UWF, so I am a bonafide alumnus.

The state ranks the universities in the SUS on tiers. Funding and expansion is based on the tier rank. UWF is 11th out of 12. When the state begins to send additional money elsewhere based on the tier rank, it will affect UWF dramatically. UWF has its niche, this whole football thing has and will distract UWF from where it does things the best. That's my fear.

...this whole football thing has and will distract UWF from where it does things the best. That's my fear.

I sure have enjoyed following Argos football the past two weeks. I hope Coach Shinnick doesn't get lured away for awhile. He has them off to a surprisingly good  start.

Apparently, Gaetz never thought he was going to be a shoo-in for the job, and in the end he congratulated Ms. Saunders and said she will do well as UWF president.

I know that, Z, but if Saunders is also someone Scott actively likes -- not just a foil for Gaetz -- that's a worry in my book.
