http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/06/01/state-department-admits-briefing-footage-on-iran-deal-intentionally-deleted.html

The State Department, in a stunning admission, acknowledged Wednesday that an official intentionally deleted several minutes of video footage from a 2013 press briefing, where a top spokeswoman seemed to acknowledge misleading the press over the Iran nuclear deal.

“There was a deliberate request [to delete the footage] – this wasn’t a technical glitch,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said Wednesday, in admitting that an unidentified official had a video editor “excise” the segment.

The State Department had faced questions earlier this year over the block of missing tape from a December 2013 briefing. At that briefing, then-spokeswoman Jen Psaki was asked by Fox News’ James Rosen about an earlier claim that no direct, secret talks were underway between the U.S. and Iran – when, in fact, they were.

Psaki at the time seemed to admit the discrepancy, saying: “There are times where diplomacy needs privacy in order to progress. This is a good example of that.”

However, Fox News later discovered the Psaki exchange was missing from the department’s official website and its YouTube channel. Eight minutes from the briefing, including the comments on the Iran deal, were edited out and replaced with a white-flash effect.

Officials initially suggested a "glitch" occurred.

But on Wednesday, current State Department spokesman Kirby said someone had censored the video intentionally. He said he couldn't find out who was responsible, but described such action as unacceptable.

While saying there were “no rules [or] regulations in place that prohibited” this at the time, Kirby said: "Deliberately removing a portion of the video was not and is not in keeping with the State Department's commitment to transparency and public accountability.”

Kirby said he learned that on the same day of the 2013 briefing, a video editor received a call from a State Department public affairs official who made "a specific request ... to excise that portion of the briefing."

Kirby says he has since ordered the original video restored on all platforms and asked the State Department's legal adviser to examine the matter. He said no further investigation will be made, primarily because no rules were in place against such actions.

Kirby said he has ordered new rules created to prevent a recurrence.

The Psaki footage took on new significance last month on the heels of a New York Times Magazine profile of Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes, who boasted of creating an “echo chamber” to sell the Iran deal.

Rhodes later claimed they did not mislead the public and “confirmed publicly” there were “discreet channels of communication established with Iran in 2012.”

Yet in a February 2013 briefing, then-State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland claimed there were no secret, direct talks with Iran at the time. It was Psaki’s explanation of that briefing, months later in December, that was later scrubbed from the footage archives.

Are you trying to be a patsy for Israel? They are the ones chomping at the bit for war against Iran.

Israel is the world's only rogue nuclear nation, possessing a very large "undeclared" nuclear arsenal. Hell, at least North Korea has "declared" its nuclear arsenal and intentions.

This makes Israel the first nation to introduce nuclear weapons to the Middle East, when they said they would not do this years ago (a bald-face lie--they intended to become a nuclear power from the outset). If the world found out the methods they used to become a nuclear power, it would be outraged. Iran's effort has been puny by comparison.

Screw the argument that poor little Israel is so surrounded by enemies that it "needs" nukes, along with missiles that reach far beyond the borders of any of said enemies. Why would Israel need to attack Norway, South Africa, or China?--these countries are all within the Jericho missile's range. Israel has never been defeated conventionally by an enemy, is a staunch U.S. ally, and is therefore covered by the U.S. nuclear arsenal as are all of our non-nuclear allies. The argument that the state of Israel needs nukes falls short, as does overlooking the that they get to keep theirs "secret."

I am sure this post will prompt PaceDog to return to the forum to call me "anti-Semitic." His religious dogma makes him defend Zionism.

Oh brother, there is NOTHING secret about Israeli nukes, just like the U.S. doesn't confirm or deny nukes on ships overseas. Get a grip.

As you know it's OK for an administration to lie, deceive, withhold public information, and refuse to accept responsibility for anything negative as long as it's liberal. Liberal hypocrisy can only be measured on a Richter scale.

This is about as stupid as a conversation on a thread can get. I sometimes give the benefit of the doubt that folks do not post spam here, and in fact they are trying to make a legitimate policy argument, but folks......diplomacy is done in secrecy. In our constitutional form of government we have elected representatives in Congress, and have elected our President to administer the government. Where in the constitution does it require the executive branch to report to the American people during negotiations. Where does it say to even report to the house of representatives, and only in a limited capacity does the Senate have review policy. It was appropriate not to give out information of active negotiations with IRAN to the press, just like it is appropriate not to give out information of troop movements, and battle plans to the press. Some with whatever remaining gray matter understood that this is the role of the executive branch.......but to criticize any actions to insure secrecy of negotiations is beyond silly.....it bone chilling ignorant.

Not giving out information is different from misrepresentation, misinformation, and flat deceit to cover up a bad deal.

It's very useful of you to ignore the obvious however... in fact it's crucial for the dear leader. Good work comrade.

How is this news?  Seriously.  And the thread title confirms the fact that PkrDumb is illiterate.

In other news, ESPN DELETED OVER AN HOUR OF FOOTAGE WHILE AIRING HIGHLIGHTS OF GAME 7 OF THE WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS!!111  That's right!  They only showed a minute or two of highlights from the game, BUT THE GAME ACTUALLY CONSISTED OF FOUR 12 MINUTE PERIODS!!!1  ESPN only offered a blank stare breathtaken disbelief when asked for comment on WHY THEY EDITED OUT THE LIES OF THIS GAME!!!11

Wrong......the purpose was to keep the negotiations with Iran secret.....and any means to do the same if fully within the constitutional framework of this government, and although folks feel entitled to information of troop movements, diplomatic negotiations, and trade negotiations there is a reason that negotiations are done in secret. There is a time to review agreements, and there are proper folks with proper standing who do that in our representative government. This idea that government was trying to deceive the people on Iran because they attempted to keep the negotiations secret is again......just stupid. However, I am still waiting for indictments on the President and SOS Clinton........because they are liars and criminals.......and now you are supporting Donald Trump under the stretched logic that Hillary is worse........that is simply a confirmation of a broken paradigm.....you need to reconsider that when you do not vote for Clinton, you are helping Trump, and Trump is evil. Clear moral choices.

I agree that the administration motivation to alter the record was petty and defensive... and it really served no purpose.

Everyone with half a brain knew that obama and kerry were lying. That's their standard mo when serving shit sandwiches.

Petty when a foreign government with distinctly different interests than America is invited to address Congress and 47 Senators send a traitorous letter in regard to those secret negotiations.......yea, if that is petty, and if our congress has outside dollars and interest which can buy them, then the American people surely want the steady hand of President Obama to keep the traitors at bay, and our kids out of harms way. Iran in 1970 presented no threat to America, and Iran in 2016 presents no threat to America, but when Shia Muslims are massacred in Syria, and Lebanon before.........then there are issues which are very specific to the nation state of Israel which are NOT exactly the same for America. To the extent that we want terrorism to stop, and we want a peaceful resolution to the Middle East conflicts, this alliance with Israel does not mean that we should send American kids into harms way in their stead. We will support them like we did in 67, and 73, but to suggest Israel, Fox News, or traitorous Senators shall run our foreign policy.....well in our system it requires being elected President.......sorry....this thread is so stupid and your failure to recognize the same simply surprises me.

In 1975-1976, when I was a Marine 2Lt stationed here for flight-training, Whiting Field was over-run with Iranian flight students. Hundreds of them were here. Our government was selling the Shah very high tech weaponry and aircraft, and we were earning big-bucks training the Shah's pilots. Fast forward to 1979, and the Shah gets deposed, Khomeini rises, and our hostages get taken, and Iran is suddenly our worst enemy. Whatever Iranians were in our country then were summarily deported back to Iran.

Petty when a foreign government with distinctly different interests than America is invited to address Congress and 47 Senators send a traitorous letter in regard to those secret negotiations.......

What is really petty is the blind acceptance of the State of Israel as an undeclared nuclear power. If they have nukes and insist on keeping them, they are be able to defend themselves adequately without any American aid or assistance. Man up! If you want to be one of the big-boys, then pay your own way in the world.

Sad watching the Progressives here doing all they possibly can to divert, and distract attention away from the repeated lies from everyone in this administration.

For THREE WEEKS, this administration said the missing EIGHT MINUTES were a GLITCH. Yesterday, as you cite, they FINALLY ADMITTED the eight minutes were intentionally deleted.

NO low-level staffer would have ever made such a decision on their own. AN APPOINTEE had to have made the decision and instructed the staffer to have deleted the segment.

NOW, surprise, surprise...NO ONE REMEMBERS...who issued the order. Pulling teeth is easier than getting the truth out of this administration but this too will come out.

Mother Jones writer David Corn appeared to have Bill O’Reilly on the ropes, drawing comparisons to Brian Williams’ fabrications for O’Reilly’s coverage of the Falklands War for CBS in 1982.
Then the latest edition of the O’Reilly Factor aired.
O’Reilly had already called the David Corn article entitled, “Bill O’Reilly Has His Own Brian Williams Problem,” a hit piece and a smear campaign from a “low-circulation” (read: irrelevant) left-wing publication.
But those were just words. On Friday’s Factor, Bill decided to bring the proof that Corn had stumbled.

During his show’s Talking Points segment, O’Reilly said he spent “most of last night digging through his basement and found documents from CBS News from his time in Buenos Aires covering the Falklands War,” which he then said he would show to viewers.

“I never said I was on the Falkland Islands, as Corn purports. I said I covered the Falklands War — which I did.”

Not only did O’Reilly cover the war as indicated, he even received high commendations for it as he demonstrated with a CBS internal memo from 33 years ago regarding his work that was sent to the CBS bureau chief in Buenos Aires by the news desk in New York City. The text follows.

“Doyle, O’Reilly didn’t have the time last night but would like to say many thanks for the riot piece last night. WCBS-TV and WCAU-TV both took the entire piece, instead of stripping it for pix. They called to say thanks for a fine piece… Thanks again. Your piece made the late feed, a winner last night.”

“George W. Bush is a liar. He has lied large and small, directly and by omission. He has mugged the truth—not merely in honest error, but deliberately, consistently, and repeatedly.” —from the Introduction

All American presidents have lied, but George W. Bush has relentlessly abused the truth. In this scathing indictment of the president and his inner circle, David Corn, the Washington editor of The Nation, reveals and examines the deceptions at the heart of the Bush presidency. In a stunning work of journalism, he details and substantiates the many times the Bush administration has knowingly and intentionally misled the American public to advance its own interests and agenda, including:

* Brazenly mischaracterizing intelligence and resorting to deceptive arguments to whip up public support for war with Iraq
* Misrepresenting the provisions and effects of the president’s supersized tax cuts
* Offering misleading explanations— instead of telling the full truth — about the 9/11 attacks
* Lying about connections to corporate crooks
* Presenting deceptive and disingenuous claims to sell controversial policies on the environment, stem cell research, missile defense, Social Security, white-collar crime, abortion, energy, and other crucial issues
* Running a truth-defying, down-and-dirty campaign during the 2000 presidential contest and recount drama

The Lies of George W. Bush is not a partisan whine—it is instead a carefully constructed, fact-based account that clearly denotes how Bush has relied on deception—from the campaign trail to the Oval Office—to win political and policy battles. With wit and style, Corn explains how Bush has managed to get away with it and explores the dangerous consequences of such presidential deceit in a perilous age.

The Five Biggest Lies Bush Told Us About Iraq is the comprehensive source on the administration's campaign of disinformation before, during, and after the second Gulf War. From the careful linking of Saddam Hussein with Al Qaeda, to the WMD canard, to the September 2003 damage-control sideshow, AlterNet.org's Christopher Scheer and Lakshmi Chaudhry team up with renowned journalist Robert Scheer to take the full measure of official deception.
They not only lied, the authors conclude; the pattern of obfuscation, misstatement, and half-retraction amounted to a devious entrapment of the American people. The Five Biggest Lies Bush Told Us About Iraq offers the first analysis of this pattern, underscoring that the lying was highly managed. The public did not commit troops, and dollars, to the invasion acting on the best information its government could provide. Instead, we fell victim to a marketing campaign conducted by a small group of influential radicals inside the Bush administration, who were pursuing their own narrow, hubristic agenda.
With U.S. soldiers still losing their lives, Bush's ongoing doublespeak is outrageous. In the authors' words, "The Bush administration continues to stand firm on the bodies of its own soldiers, who are paying a high price for its lack of reason. . . . The soldiers themselves are simply exhausted, homesick, and disillusioned with both their generals who sold them the shining lie of a quick war of liberation and the nation that seems unwilling to be rescued."

The total you received includes all those for the word "the" same for the word "lies" adding in those for the word "of", plus those for the word "George" and so on.

Not even out of office yet and the same search for "the lies of Barack Obama" is 18,800,000.

Your desperation is duly noted!

Now, back to the subject which is the Lame Duck President Obama's, "State Dept Admits Deleting Admission of Lies on Iran Deal".
