Since 1900, the Senate has voted on eight Supreme Court nominees during an election year. Six were confirmed. But several of those were for seats that had become vacant in the previous year.

The Senate has never taken more than 125 days to vote on a successor from the time of nomination; on average, a nominee has been confirmed, rejected or withdrawn within 25 days. When Justice Antonin Scalia died, 342 days remained in President Obama’s term.

Republicans are always bragging about how much they love the Constitution, but just like the Bible, they apparently have never read it.

I suggest they read Article II Section 2 which reads:


[The President] shall have power, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to make treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint ambassadors, other public ministers and consuls, judges of the Supreme Court, and all other officers of the United States, whose appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by law: but the Congress may by law vest the appointment of such inferior officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the courts of law, or in the heads of departments.

The President shall have power to fill up all vacancies that may happen during the recess of the Senate, by granting commissions which shall expire at the end of their next session.

Elections have consequences.  The Republicans won the Senate, and the Democrats won the Presidency.  The Republicans just do not use their brain.  They should have shut up.   They should have held hearings, and given every appearance of an honest attempt to review the nomination and give their consent.  Then they simply hammer and vote on each appointee and deny consent.    They would pretend the process was legitimate and in compliance with our constitutional government, but now they have declared the constitution has been amended and the President loses his power to appoint in the last year of their Presidency.  Idiocy.   The American public is not stupid.   They understand how corrupt this position is and there will be consequences.   Is anybody advising the Republican Party on Strategy and appearances?
