If ye love me - Do not show your love by grief at my departure merely; or by profession, but by obedience.
God was a lot less busy in old testament times so he had time to think up how he wanted things done. In old testament times gods had a specific geographic area that was his. The Hebrews had their god as did the Chaldeans, Philistines, Ammonites,etc.
