I say every American can buy what they want, but if a product is introduced into the stream of commerce which causes costs which are not recouped then we are subsidizing those products. If tobacco kill 50k a year and cost 300 billion in health care costs is it wrong to tax those products and recoup some of the societal costs for the same.
If a dump truck runs 50k lbs overweight, is it going to destroy our roads, and should we tax that truck based on weight and license? At what point do we say no to a truck or put real restrictions which limit the size of trucks and the weight of loads......you know that socialism really sticks their nose in all the wrong places. Grownups need to run government. Let the children go play in the backyard......and grownups are going to weigh societal costs, risks, and burdens, and policy will follow. Where is the argument that limits on truck loads is socialism......because having had to deal with overweights.....I think society does have a role in keeping the dollars and sense in line with the products and methods of commerce, and that will require some review of nutrition, and limits.
