The Sanders campaign is a wonderful development for 2016 and beyond in many ways.

1) The Sanders campaign can shift the dialog from the right wing and objectively boost the various initiatives underway around the country for a progressive agenda.

2) The campaign has the potential to inspire people to engage in the political process and increase voter turnout. It has the potential to help create progressive structures, campaigns and coalitions at the local level to shift the political climate.

3) It is already changing the political debate within the Democratic primary and the Democratic Party.

4) Sanders identifying as a democratic socialist opens up long-term discussion about what socialism is and could be in our country, and makes socialism respectable. It offers the possibility to deepen the discussion about socialism, third parties and political independence in and outside the Democratic Party.

In addition to the few communists in America, Bernie is drawing the largest crowds of any candidate for president -- from either party.

You drive on a public highway? That's socialism. Social security, medicare, medicaid and Obamacare, public schools, State universities and local colleges -- all are socialistic. You go to a city or state hospital? America has from the very start been a capitalist-socialistic country -- so quit whining that Bernie is going to take away your diapers.

Yes and all those things you mentioned function so very well..LOL. Socialism is all about bigger government less individual freedom and controlling everything you do...I am sure the founding fathers said yeah socialism, great idea....as the formed the Republic. This country is being DESTROYED by socialism and of course that is the communist plan.. overload the capitalist system with socialist programs  then blame capitalism for the failure....but if people are so stupid as to believe their savior is socialism, then they deserve to live in a communist police state. Capitalism brings prosperity and freedom, socialism brings death...and chaos.

Really? Every retired citizen is glad for the monthly checks without which most of them would be homeless. Medicare is a great success -- ask anyone who benefits from it. Ditto for Obamacare -- which has already cut the uninsured 1/3 since it's beginning.

But you're absolutely correct about all these socialist things being part of an evil communist plan . . . lucky for us the commies started public education through high school! And lucky for us there are dams that store water and produce electricity. Can't beat those commies for good ideas! And I love all the colleges and hospitals and roads and bridges those commies brought about, don't you?


And I've got a secret for you, our current dysfunctional economy is 100% capitalist. And freedom don't mean shit if you ain't got a roof over your head.

Ask the citizens of Greece, Cuba and Venezuela.

Such utter understanding of simple concepts like history.  Greece remains completely controlled by the Oligarchy who is corrupt and refuses to pay taxes to support the Government, and the reaction to the same you argue is caused by socialism.  Talk to Germany where the problem is for Greeks melt down.  It is the same subsidy in America of our 1% which has contributed to our debt which grew since Reagan.  Cuba was a corrupt Oligarchy led by an evil dictator named Batista where the Oligarchy owned 90% of the land as peasants lived in squalor when after the revolution Castro came to America for support for his new government and we rejected him because our Oligarchy had its hands all over the corruption in that country, and he turned left.  Venezuela had the oligarchy owning almost 90% of the land as the corruption was controlled by developed nations who wanted to exploit the oil resources....the people revolted.

The huge crowds in America indicate that the message of Bernie Sander's is touching millions of exploited Americans who have said enough.  America is a great country whose model of free trade between states set the model for the world on what economic freedom can achieve, but from the days of Teddy Roosevelt having to bust the trusts and monopolies who exploited Americans unfettered capitalism and subsidy to the 1% is understood as a core belief for the majority of Americans to be wrong.   Bernie Sanders has changed the dialogue in America and if all his detractors have is the concept of socialism is bad, that turkey will not fly because Wordslinger only gave the tip of the iceberg where cooperative group efforts in a capitalistic framework work and achieve what our founding fathers wanted for America........

The kind of guy who says fuck the poor, screw pregnant girls, and minorities shouldn't vote. He thinks the MIC is wonderful, and that corporations ARE people. He claims he is a true patriotic American with strong moral convictions, and traditional values. And he is absolute proof that America was created by the rich, for the rich and of the rich. A country dedicated to equality -- by men who owned and believed that slavery was okay as long as the slaves weren't white.

I planned to teach political theory at a college, and I must say many here need to actually take some courses and read to understand what communism was......there is NO communism in this world for a reason......it failed.   Connecting socialism to communism at a theoretical level is a complete denial of history and a complete lack of reading and comprehension of the dialectic, or understand the principle of private property rights protected under our constitution in the fifth amendment.   It is just immature and ill thought out to use the word communist in 2015....it shows a level of ignorance which a person who uses it is like a person today with an AOL email.....just simply out of touch.

Seaoat: Not much sense in trying to sell the truth to monkeys. They have been told to hate socialism in all its forms -- because socialism boosts -- always -- the plight of the working man and the average citizen. That of course is seen by the bloodsuckers as a terrible threat.

Government created the Civil Right laws and it is that socialism which they object......they have no problem that the collective of citizens in their town, pick up the garbage, deliver the mail, provide roads, security, and schools.......no it is the mandate of equality which makes socialism in America a dirty word.

I don't know anyone on this forum who advocates that America should become communist. I don't, and I'm every inch a full blooded socialist.
