Medical Marijuana May Pose Risk to Teens, Study Suggests

FRIDAY, July 24, 2015 (HealthDay News) -- Teens who have legal permission to use medical marijuana are 10 times more likely to say they're addicted than those who get the drug illegally, a new study shows.

University of Michigan researchers looked at nearly 4,400 high school seniors, including 48 who had medical marijuana cards, 266 who used others' medical marijuana and those who bought the drug from street dealers.

Teens who used medical marijuana were far more likely to report problems with addiction, the researchers found.

If you want to talk about addiction among teens, you should start with the prescription drugs Ritalin and Adderall. You're much more likely to find dangerous side effects from these and other prescription drugs that are often prescribed to children who may or may not need them. Then there are antidepressants, which may be prescribed, and other street drugs (Ecstasy, etc.). Marijuana is far down the list of drugs that may be harmful to teens. Medical marijuana that is prescribed for conditions like Epilepsy is genetically altered to minimize THC...the most active ingredient in marijuana that "gets you high". You really should read up on a subject, or at least have some type of personal experience, before spewing the latest party line.
