Somebody don't like Ted Cruz... Ted_Cruz_gun

The Associated Press issued a statement about its widely panned photo of U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, with a background picture of a handgun pointed straight at his head, saying the shot was accidental.

“Presidential candidate Ted Cruz was shown in a series of 14 photos taken by an Associated Press photographer at a “Celebrate the 2nd Amendment’ event Saturday afternoon, held at a shooting range in Johnston, Iowa,” said Paul Colford, vice president and director of media relations said, Politico reported. “Five of the photos published by AP included images of guns seen on a wall in the background so that it appeared a pistol was pointed at Sen. Cruz’s head.”

Bozell added: “This is disgusting. Just days after a horrific shooting that took nine lives, the AP has the gall to unapologetically display a gun aimed at the head of a presidential candidate. They would never do this to Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. Nor should they.”

Whom do you think put the gun graphic in the picture? Are you really that dense?

Well since he was in a gun shop I figured it was a picture on the wall.....

White Supremacist Cited by Dylann Roof Donated to GOP 2016 Candidates
By Margaret Hartmann

Republican presidential candidates were hesitant to say last week's shooting in Charleston was about racism, and over the weekend many could not give a decisive answer on whether South Carolina should stop flying the Confederate flag on the capitol grounds. Now several GOP candidates are facing even tougher questions about their campaign's ties to a white-supremacist group cited in alleged shooter Dylann Roof's manifesto. The Guardian reported on Sunday that Earl Holt III, the leader of the Council of Conservative Citizens (CofCC), has donated $65,000 to Republican candidates in recent years, including Ted Cruz, Rand Paul, and Rick Santorum.

Roof mentioned the Missouri-based group once on his website, saying it's the first one he stumbled on in his journey toward embracing his deranged, racist worldview:

The event that truly awakened me was the Trayvon Martin case. I kept hearing and seeing his name, and eventually I decided to look him up. I read the Wikipedia article and right away I was unable to understand what the big deal was. It was obvious that Zimmerman was in the right. But more importantly this prompted me to type in the words “black on White crime” into Google, and I have never been the same since that day. The first website I came to was the Council of Conservative Citizens. There were pages upon pages of these brutal black on White murders. I was in disbelief. At this moment I realized that something was very wrong. How could the news be blowing up the Trayvon Martin case while hundreds of these black on White murders got ignored?
The Guardian highlighted many racist comments left by the user "Earl P Holt III" on the conservative site the Blaze. The user claims he's learned to use "a great many weapons" to ensure that being white doesn't "get me murdered" by minorities and calls black people "the laziest, stupidest and most criminally-inclined race in the history of the world." He also warns that black activists would "kill you, rape your entire family, and burn your house to the ground," which sounds similar to Roof's reported remark to his victims, "You rape our women."

A spokesman for Holt said the online comments were likely made by him, and in a statement posted on Saturday, Holt said the CofCC merely gave Roof "accurate" information and does not condone his actions:

It has been brought to the attention of the Council of Conservative Citizens that Dylann Roof–the alleged perpetrator of mass murder in Charleston this week–credits the CofCC website for his knowledge of black-on-white violent crime.
This is not surprising: The CofCC is one of perhaps three websites in the world that accurately and honestly report black-on-white violent crime, and in particular, the seemingly endless incidents involving black-on-white murder.
The CofCC website exists because media either “spike” such stories, or intentionally obscure the race of black offenders. Indeed, at its national convention some years ago, the Society of Professional Journalists adopted this tactic as a formal policy.
The CofCC is hardly responsible for the actions of this deranged individual merely because he gleaned accurate information from our website.
We are no more responsible for the actions of this sad young man, than the Olin Corporation was for manufacturing the ammo misused by Colin Ferguson to murder six whites on the Long Island Railroad in 1993.
The CofCC does not advocate illegal activities of any kind, and never has. I would gladly compare the honesty and law-abiding nature of our membership against that of any other group.
FEC filings reveal that, since 2012, Holt has contributed $8,500 to one of Senator Ted Cruz's political action committees, $1,750 to Senator Rand Paul's RandPAC, and $1,500 to former senator Rick Santorum. According to the New York Times, he's also donated money to Senator Jeff Flake, Senator Rob Portman, Representative Steve King, former representative Michele Bachmann, former representative Todd Akin, and Mitt Romney's 2012 campaign fund.

When contacted by The Guardian, Cruz spokesman Rick Tyler said, "Upon review, we discovered that Mr. Holt did make a contribution. We will be immediately refunding the donation."

Santorum spokesman Matthew Beynon disavowed Holt's comments, but didn't say anything about returning the money. "Senator Santorum does not condone or respect racist or hateful comments of any kind. Period. The views the Senator campaigns on are his own and he is focused on uniting America, not dividing her," Beynon said. Paul has yet to respond to questions about the donations.

In this case it was the Associated Press.  You would have thought that if any news gathering organization was above this sort of thing,  it would be the AP.
Sadly I guess not.

This is the sort of thing that happens when pictures are taken in gun shops. There are likely to be posters and ads in the background but I don't think they should have let this one slip by. Not good...even though I don't like Ted at all this shouldn't have happened.

It wouldn't have ever happened to a democrat... period. And the gun shop excuse doesn't cut it... there are often graphics on screens while the politician makes political points... the pictures are approved. This was done deliberately/purposefully.

Okay, if so, so what? Did AP apologize or retract the picture or what? I'm not following this story. What do you want to have happen?

I want it recognized that it was NOT an accident or mishap... that media has double standards and an agenda.

Nah, they refused to apologize for it.

Can you even imagine what would happen if that was Hillary's face with a gun pointed at it?

I know you're pleased by the double standard... as it overwhelming works in your favor. But it might not forever.

Then we'll see how funny yellow journalism is... comrades.

OK...9 people killed in Charleston by a REAL gun, but you save your outrage for a photograph with a picture of a gun that is displayed on a wall at a shooting range where candidate Cruz is hosting a 2nd Amendment photo-op. Which "selective outrage" and/or media bias are we discussing again?

You don't see the media bias and double standard ?.....I guess the gun would would have had to be generated by a hurricane powered machine projecting a hologram on the wall behind Cruz for you to catch on...

You once told me in response to a mass shooting, something like.. bad things happen... so it's kind of hard for me to believe that you're highly offended by a picture of a gun. After all, guns don't kill people..blah blah blah
No, they shouldn't have used that picture. And if you do find it offensive, maybe it's time to reflect on why it offends you

I don't find the picture offensive... I find the hypocrisy and rational offensive. Let's have one set of rules.

Truthfully, I think the picture is outrageous.

But, they said it was a mistake, so what are you gonna do?

Rub some salve on that butthurt, would be my guess.

Not sure who this is addressed to. But I was horrified by what happened in Charleston to the point that I want to see that little dickwad be tortured to death.
But does that mean I can no longer object to anything else? Am I limited to one objection a month or something.

Yes of course, a photo of some politician with a gun pointing at him is not as evil as slaughtering nine totally innocent people who are worshipping in a church. I doubt there's anyone amongst us who disagrees with that.
But if after that happening, you're saying we're no longer allowed to object to anything else, then that applies to all of us and what is good for the gander is good for the goose. So I think you should have to refrain from objecting to anything republicans/conservatives/right-wingers do too. lol

Her outrage is selective and dependant upon the media and her dear leaders to tell her when to exhibit it.

By sheer numbers a white shooter and black victims are miniscule compared to black on black murders...

but that doesn't even raise an eyebrow. Why aren't gang colors or gang signs an issue? No dog whistle?

I'm not disgusted by it. It's a photo. It was taken at a shooting range where Cruz pandered to the gun culture. It was after the Charleston shooting. It was also right after this, which happened at another shooting range in Texas:

Sheriff: Man shoots grandson in fatal hunting accident

(Grandpa was releasing birds from captivity en masse and shooting them, and his 9-year-old grandson had for some reason left the hunting blind and wound up in the path of grandpa's gun...an "accident".)

You must not have seen this news. It's interesting tho... there seems to be no mention of race.
