How are we to respect law enforcement officers when they hate our guts and frequently kill, beat or strangle us?

I've never been beaten and obviously haven't been killed (nor shot). In fact, I've never been arrested. I wonder why? Oh that's right, I obey the law and the few times I've been stopped for traffic BS I've just done what the cop said to do.

Since you hate the police in this country so much might I suggest moving to Somalia or Yemen. You won't have to worry about THEM there.

Most of the time I agree with your posts but the title of this thread leaves me cold. It is not more useful or correct to paint an entire group of people, in this case the police, with a broad negative brush than it is to do the same for any other group: gender, race, sexual orientation etc.

All cops are not alike any more than all old people are alike, or all whites, blacks, gays etc.

I have friends who are police officers....I would not like to be spit on, and I certainly would not one of them to be spit on. There are real problems and real solutions which do not involve making all police into bad people. This thread is crazy talk.

The thing is, I want some real pressure put on our police to bring about the changes that will make it safer for them and for us.


That won't happen unless we keep the pressure on.


They need to know exactly how the actions of the bad cops are turning the people against all of them.

It figures that someone like you would choose to run instead of face and correct a serious defect in your country.  I take it you're a redneck, right? LOL

I am half redneck, and I think that serious changes in our criminal justice system have to be connected to budget reform.  We need to shrink the footprint of our criminal justice system.  I was watching the Morning Joe show and they were discussing the 73 year old who donated money to the Tulsa police, and they gave him a gun, badge, and taser..........he pulled and shot his gun at an unarmed suspect who had been tackled because he mistakenly grabbed his gun which he thought was his taser.  I feel like you are focusing on this officer's mistake, and fail to focus on the people in power who gave an old man without adequate training a badge and a weapon.  

Worse, in the roundtable discussion the people kept spewing LIES which went unchallenged which our police are over burdened and we need to grow and add personnel.  How can we correct this horrible experience in America where we have the largest prison system draining our taxpayer coffers while creating a standing army, and the LIE continues that we need to grow and feed the monster.   You do not kill the monster by spitting on a police officer.  It takes calm and correct policy to change the paradigm.  I did not vote for President Obama because Democrats are the biggest proponents of the LIE, and Republicans have become scardy cats afraid of blacks and hispanics being equal citizens who need their standing army.   We need good people to work for good government.  Do not spit.....cut the Law Enforcement budgets by 25% and decriminalize and regulate illegal drugs.

All of you are right; I guess I shouldn't have advocated spitting on cops.  But I'm damned mad at all of law enforcement right now due to the almost daily news stories of militarized cops, cops acting as judge and jury -- with guns -- cops mercilessly beating helpless suspects who are already in custody, cops strangling suspects, and cops who, after shooting a victim laugh and insult their victims instead of rendering aid.

And I'm truly pissed at the apparent policies of police departments which, instead of immediately launching true investigations of their rogue employees following the needless deaths of unarmed citizens, instantly employ policies designed to cover-up cop criminals.

Seaoat, you're right -- it's the people who run police departments who should be spit on (just before being tarred and feathered and sent to prison).  And when you look at the problem rationally, you realize the infection runs ALL THE WAY to the top. 

It starts with corporatism -- the buying of our elected leaders through campaign financing.  The cops aren't working for their communities anymore, their working to defend fascism!

It's good to know your enemies.

And that's exactly what our government has become.

They deserve a helluva lot worse than being spat upon.

Perhaps.  But when someone suggests that a person who recognizes and wants to correct a serious problem in his country should leave it instead, which one is the real idiot?
