Monday's incident is the latest in a series of high-profile shootings involving children. Among them, a 4-year-old girl killed her cousin, also 4, in Detroit while playing with a gun found under a bed last January, a 9-year-old accidentally killed a shooting instructor in August while firing a submachine gun at an Arizona range and last month a 2-year-old fatally shot his mother in an Idaho Walmart after finding a gun in her purse.

Are we seeing a trend here?

Sadly guns are more efficient and easier to use...but then there's  ice picks pushing down stairs, drowning, baseball bats, poison, vaccines, etc....

Any time anyone mentions gun violence, we get the standard...oh, yes, but there are other ways for children to die.  In all of the above, where in the hell were the parents?  There IS such a thing as responsible gun ownership, and that includes locking your guns away where little fingers can't get near them...same with car keys...bet mom just ran into the store for a minute and left the kids in the car...STUPID.

Didn't mean to pick on moms; it could just as easily have been dad.

Yes the gun was the tool  but like you said the parents were the enablers of the accident. Let kids play unsupervised by the pool and you enable their death.

If the trend continues gun deaths will exceed auto deaths.......as cars get safer, guns get more dangerous. The 15k death per year gap starting in 1999 is about to close as gun deaths rise. If we can make car ownership safer, we sure can make gun ownership safer.
