So exactly what was accomplished? Nothing and you're embarrassed by the revelation of semi-retired President Obama's utterances and policy in 2008.

Specifically what did President Obama do to free Andrew Tahmooressi? A man who had served our country? Did President Obama call and welcome him home?

It opens up another trading partner who is geographically close, and may eventually give options with American companies who have been sending jobs to Mexico, China, and India. The first area I have heard discussed is new markets for our agricultural products. We can beat transportation costs from Brazil and Argentina, and in return the sugar cane is an excellent substitute for burning corn for ethanol. We send them corn, they send us sugar cane and the price of corn drops a bit, but energy production for ethanol improves the ratios. The tourism trade will give Cuba jobs and offer inexpensive vacations for Americans without high transportation costs. We are seeing how damaging a trade embargo is on the Russian economy, but the loss of trade hurts both partners. Any person with graduate level economic course would not even tender this question.....it is obvious.

Clearly Cuban agricultural policies have been a huge failure.   Over 30% of the land is being farmed inefficiently.  They need our energy products, our manufactured goods(John Deere, Navistar, and Cat are chopping at the bit to get into this market)    We can use the lower cost sugar, the waste product ethanol, and the tropical agricultural products which have all but disappeared in South Florida and are limited in California as the growing water issues confront California agriculuture........this is a HUGE win for American business.  the energy center in south La and Texas have huge fertilizer plants which transportation costs are going to blow current competitors out of the water.

As the trade begins we will see a growing demand for American manufactured goods, and we will benefit from lower costs on agricultural products.   Stupid is creating fear and building a MIC to drain our treasury.....it used to be the Republican Party was pro business and pro trade, but Mr. Markle your lack of comprehension on some of these issues limit you to mumbly peg and a fixation on the Black man in the White House.  Intelligence has a threshold.

I strongly disagree.  Almost 30% of Cubans are involved in inefficient agricultural utilization of the land.   Modern agricultural practices, equipment, and training will open a huge market for American agriculture manufacturing, fertilizer, energy products, and the International Monetary fund is going to make loans because of the obvious upside to this trading partnership.  It is like a person after being in the wilderness for 40 years walked into Wal Mart with a blank check.  Pent up demand for electronics, manufacture goods, creates a huge market which will have to be further negotiated and will not be a cake walk in the intitial years because of the political interference with efficient markets......however there is going to be a boom for both trading partners.

Think of Nixon's visit to China and what followed in regards to the volume of trade and the increase world GDP. It is simple economics 101 comparative advantage.

It won't happen. Our port is not a working port anymore. The city officials do not want a functioning port......the downtown area has been designated a mixed media venue.

The city is very selective about what companies and commodities can utilize the port. Can you imagine unloading something that would be offensive to the patrons of the Fish House.....yuk!

Actually, having eaten there twice, I can't imagine anything that would offend THEIR patrons! Yuk is right!

Those were the good old days, before the Baptists took over.

Please explain how this is an "accomplishment".

What did the U.S. get out of this surrender to another communist nation?

Here is what our currently semi-retired President said in 2008.

Obama also said he would up uphold the embargo imposed after the island went communist, to use as leverage until Cuba shows "significant steps toward democracy," starting with freedom for approximately 219 jailed political prisoners.

So he lied again....

You're truly laughable. We've accomplished nothing whatever to change the regime in Cuba since Fidel knocked off our puppet Batista. Our 59-yar old embargo and treatment of Cuba as a pariah state, even when our former communist enemies (with whom we warred) are now our friends and trading partners.

Explain how it's okay to have governmental and trade relations with China and Vietnam, but not Cuba.

It's about time an American president had the foresight to recognize what hasn't worked, and has had the balls to make this change.

Fact: Every former enemy country we've maintained trade and governmental relations with has resulted positively for us and them.

But I can understand how you hate the fact that our first Black President was the guy who made this timely and good decision. LOL

Looks like I'll now be able to come out of retirement and fulfill a lifelong dream.
Can you even imagine how many vintage slot machines Santo Trafficante,  Meyer Lansky and Lucky Luciano brought to Havana?  They number in the tens of thousands.
But the coin-op is chump change compared to the 50's fin cars (an estimated 5000 57 Chevys still on the road).
I want to be among the first to get my travel papers.  Does anybody here speak spanish?  All I remember from high school class is como esta uste but I don't remember what that even means.  How do you say we wanna buyum old shit in Spanish?
It's time we show these chumps obama and castro what capitalism is all about.

Due to his profession, President Ronald Reagan met and dined (socialized) with Soviet and Chinese leaders. So did Nixon. Evidently, according to your way of thinking expressed by the photos you cut and pasted, there should be no doubt that Reagan and Nixon were communists, right? LOL

Some wear underwear. Some don't. It depends on their habits. We all know how oversexed the Catholic clergy is. I doubt any of the randy priests care what their sexual object of the moment is wearing, or not wearing under their clothing.

There is mounting historic and even gospel evidence (that's the right word in this case) that Jesus was married. So much for celibacy and Catholicism.

Dear Jesus: Thanks for everything, and I really hope that for Xmas you get the red Ducati sportbike from your Dad!

Two thoughts:

I'm hoping increased agricultural trade does not include selling them fertilizers. Since the embargo they have been forced to use natural fertilizers only. The result has been no nitrogen runoff into the waters surrounding Cuba. They have one of the healthiest coral reef habitats on the planet. Environmentalists will have to weigh in on that.

Another question has to be asked. The right asks:  what did we get for this change in policy. We need to ask: what did we get with the embargo in place for decades?

To me the embargo was an embarrassment. Weren't we the only nation still participating in it? It made us look foolish to continue a failed policy.
