Veterans groups and military associations are blasting a move by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Oklahoma, intended to scuttle a veterans' suicide prevention bill that has already passed in the House with strong bipartisan support.
The GOP lawmaker put a hold on the $22 million bill, which he opposes on grounds it has no offsets in spending elsewhere and would duplicate programs already offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs, he said.

Please delineate the "riders" attached to the bill before you throw him under the bus.

Dammit....a fiscal conservative. What else was in the bill.....3 billion to global warming? How much was designated to the UN peacekeepers? What else is tacked on to this bill that Dr. Senator, or is it Senator Dr. Corban objects.

22 million is a small amount going into a duplicate broken system....could that amount really fix the problem?

The Chickenhawks send us to war under the waving flags and with self-serving speeches full of fireworks and glory. They make solemn promises with one bloody hand on their goddamned bibles and the other clutching a knife behind their backs.

When it's time to inscribe the names of the dead upon the cold white marble, oh they remember us then, they do. They stand there before the cameras with crocodile tears in their eyes for all the fallen heroes and use us one more time to line their pockets with blood-money.

But for the living? The veterans who survived and now expect these faithless bastards to make good on their promises? Well, then they've never heard of us and their pious promises sworn before their God are as empty and as worthless as their faith.

The Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act stands ready to pass the Senate with a unanimous vote. Unanimous vote less one. The bill has been stalled by secret hold. One Senator, one, is anonymously holding up the bill in protest of its paltry $22M price tag.

This anonymous senator is so craven and so cowardly that he's afraid to openly filibuster the bill, so he used the secret hold.

That Senator is Tom Coburn, Republican from Oklahoma.

Coburn is a pusillanimous chickenhawk, your standard issue GOP hypocrite, a war fetish saber-rattler who never served not a single day in uniform himself, a vehemently pro-life and rabidly pro-death penalty bible humping conservative who enthusiastically sent us off to fight and die in a foreign land - while repeatedly voting against funding the tools and equipment we needed to wage the conflict he started - and who now would stand smugly by and watch veterans die as he secretly holds up legislation that would help them.

Coburn's office will not confirm that he's the one who placed the secret hold, but didn't deny it either. And his spokesman did say that Coburn strongly opposes the bill because it will cost $22 million over five years.

$22 million dollars over five years. That's $4.4 million a year. Just for reference purposes, a single F-22A Raptor, which Coburn voted for and components of which are built in his state (which is why he voted for it) costs $150 Million. Per unit. Payable in advance. All at once. That's right, the TOTAL cost of this bill which will help to save the lives of veterans, including those who flew this very airplane, IS LESS THAN 1/6TH, REPEAT 1/6TH, THE COST OF A SINGLE FIGHTER JET.

If there was any justice in the world, this craven son of a bitch would be forced to personally dig the graves of every single veteran who died in this goddamned war.

As to secret holds in the Senate. The practice should be made illegal immediately. If you don't have enough guts to own it, you shouldn't be in Congress in the first place. America is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. And the people have a right, and a duty, to know who's holding up legislation. Secret holds are the enemy of democracy, they hold the entire country at the mercy of a petty and cowardly tyrant.

As a veteran, as an American, I say Fuck Senator Tom Coburn, the sooner prostate cancer kills him, the better for America. And you can quote me on that, unlike this coward, I own what I say.

It's long past time for Tom Coburn to face his small and spiteful God and answer for his miserable cowardice.

Coburn argued before the Senate late Monday that "almost everything that's in this bill has already been authorized and approved with the $10 billion [Veterans Choice Ac t] that we sent to the VA."

"I object to this bill not because I don't want to help save [veterans], because I don't think this bill's going to do that," he said.

I know how to prevent veteran suicides and it won't cost a thing.

Actually, it will save billions!

Shut down the pentagon, dismantle the CIA, and fire all the warmongering assholes who work there.

Yeah, what a waste. If they wait long enough, the money won't need to be spent because the vets will have offed themselves. It could be better spent on a COLA for Congress.

www.nationaljournal.com/.../why-are-so-many-older-veterans-committing-...
Apr 14, 2014 - Nearly 70 percent of all veterans who commit suicide are age 50 or older, according to the Veterans Affairs Department.

Fix the system in place......22million isn't going to fix the billions already in place.

Specifically what blame was shifted? It is clear now that the unknown senator is in fact Colburn.

Coburn, in a two-page statement released by his office on Friday, said the VA "already has the tools and authorities it needs to address these problems."
"Congress should be holding the VA accountable rather than adding to its list of poorly managed programs. The VA has proven that questions need to be asked before it is entrusted with the lives of veterans or the money of taxpayers," Coburn said.
Besides not providing for offsets, Coburn said a $3 million provision for paying off the college loans of psychiatrists coming to work at VA is something the department already has the authority and funding to do.
The Legion's de Planque believes Coburn misunderstands the measure.
The new money is intended to bring in professionals to serve for a specific number of years in return for loan repayments. It would function much like the Reserve Officer Training Corps, where the Defense Department covers tuition costs in return for a military service commitment, he said.
"This is actually a way of creating people to fill those slots [now vacant]," he said.

What facts have been ignored? Are the dollar amounts for various items misquoted?

Referencing the article posted by Sal, yes, it is undeniable that names were called, which were richly deserved IMO. However, I find your other two accusations could use some examples if possible.
