The dirty bastard dictator Saddam Hussein ran Iraq by controlling the tribal factions with an iron hand (and poison gas at times) so we removed him and look what we've got now! Iraq is in total chaos.
Assad kept the various factions in Syria under control via torture, assassination and poison gas. So now we're trying to figure out who we can control to remove him from power. Anyone want to bet how this is going to turn out?
Why can't we just let the Shias, Sunnis, Turks, Kurds and Muslim brotherhood settle who's going to run the Mideast by themselves?
